Ok so this is a story of following the directions even though you know better. I bought the POR-15 silver stirling paint (not impressed with this particular paint, it has no gloss) I was going to spray it, but directions say to use a foam brush and it will lay down BULLSHIT. did the first two wheels and they looked like garbage, so I pull my spray gun out and go ahead and spray over the top of the brush strokes on the first two, made them a little better, sprayed the back two, they turned out nice, very metalic however not very glossy. The only issue I had was on one wheel I bent down to see if I got the lip covered, wind picked up and blew some sweat right across the rims, never fails!!! I swear i need to wear a bandana when I paint and maybe some zubaz pants. My guess is I will have to go over the top with a clear coat, but I'll see how it dries. They didn't turn out great, but they turned out ok. I am taking the car into the shop in two weeks to get all the dents pulled, going to keep it the same color.



We may be getting a new mercedes in the fleet, not sure but we're looking, found one we want to look at tomorrow. It's an SL 380 convert, gas not diesel, maybe i'll make it diesel some day LOL

I just did a set of benz wheels for one my customers, I did them in imron over sandblasted wheels.



Its funny what I end up doing for these people that has nothing to do with boats, lol

It has a soft top and a hard top, that photo is with the hard top on. All the 380's came that way.

the v8's are like FD motors though, they really bake everything plastic and rubber.

Yea this one was pretty rough, I here the 380s are a nightmare on timing chains. the interior was pretty rough, engine smoked and had a knock, could be timing could the timing chain, i suspect the latter. We really want a SL500 though so we are going to keep our eyes open for one. I don't want to put much money into a 380 as their value is about 4 to 6k, where a 500 in good shape is 12 to 15k.

Oh 88 the way the top works on these is the soft top is stored in a little compartment, you remove the hard top and the cover for the soft top becomes the brace and it lifts right up, the odds of amy every using convert portion are slim. I find it's too damn hot most days to take the top down on the rx7 lol

yeah forgot the chain... my 300sel had the timing chain about every 60,000miles from new which is pretty crap IMO. it looks like its a huge job too, and with like a rotary you just rebuild the engine, mercedes you just keep getting more buried.... i saw a rebuild thread somewhere with a v8 mercedes, and at like 100k everything was pretty shot, rings, bearings, pistons...

I may just look for a good donor, yank that gas engine out and put a diesel in there, weld the hood shut and move on LOL

It must be maintenance, I have a friend who has a Mercedes shop and his customer's cars go well over 100k-200k on their gas motors.

He has a neat trick for the timing chain too so you dont have to take it all apart.
