I was a little weary about buying an RX-7 even though it is my dream car. Lately I have been opened to the many problems there are in a rotary engine, especially with the over heating quickly. I live in Texas and will be making a 200+ mile drive probably about once a month, if not more in the holidays to and from college. I was told this is very bad if I wanted a reliable car, and I shouldn't go toward an RX-7. I have even been strayed to a Supra, but my love persists for the RX concepts. My idea was to take a new Renesis from the RX-8 and swap it into the RX-7. I just don't know all about the engine, and how reliable they are, or even if they have twin turbos for them. I desperately want a quick rotary with my own touch, while at the same time being able to not worry about how my engine is staying cool, or burning too much oil. If anyone has any experience in the field, please let me know. My email is Beardo2121@aol.com. I would love to learn more about this idea, or hear any feedback. Thank you

That would cost money out the wazoo, and the overheating problemisnt in the engine itself, its in the cooling system.

A rx-7h a good aftermarket radiator and other cooling system upgrades/reliability mods shouldnt overheat.

I think there are a few guys on the board with modified FD's that live in texas. I would find who they are and ask them what coolant/water ratio to run and what they do to keep their engines cool.

the overheating on the fd's is the turbos. i dunno i put 20k on my fd, with a couple of long trips and never had a problem

I run my FC back and forth between Austin and Houston with no issuses. Austin to Dallas and back also. Just make sure you keep up on all maintence and fluid levels, Oh, and buy one with working A/C... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

FD3s overheating is maintenance issue not a design issue. Could the cooling system been better designed? Hell yes! But that doesn’t stop anyone from popping out a little $$$ (aluminum radiator) to save allot of $$$$. Just my .02. Good luck with your 7.

Cheers!

Most of the problems are caused by the owners IMO, but I will admit that mazdas rotary vehicles are less tolerant of these owners than some other vehicles may be.

I have been extremely happy with the reliability however.
