ok my mom's car has a tiny leak in the coolant system that is deep under manifolds ect. the car has that dexcool **** and i wanted to know if i could use that hole plugger stuff safely. i don't know much about this stuff because i always thought it was the ghetto easy way out....but could this work well in my situation?

there are 2 kinds of ghetto repair, the small tube of aluminum shavings, and the black liquid goop. the metal shavings one is good for a radiator leak, but it tends to clog up the heater core.



The black Liquid goop has theese like rat poop pellets in the bottle, they melt in the cooing system and seal virtually any gasket o-ring leak.



I would try the black goop, it has a better chance of working, and don't worry about the dex-cool, won't make a difference.

When I had a coolant seal going bad in my FD, I dumped a bottle of black goop in her and she ran for another year before the great volcanic eruption took place

The KEY is to perform a flush and lots of rinses (with clear clean water) first to thoroughly clean the surfaces to allow the sealer to work

is it ok to use hose water for a flush, and distilled for the final fill?

Yes, the prob with the hose water is the mineral content.



Of course for final fill I use evans NPG+, which uses no water!

Regarding GM's "Death-Cool" aka Dexcool: I have firsthand seen this stuff ruin a well-cared for engine with 70k miles on it when an otherwise minor leak allows air to enter the system. After digging around the internet for info, I have found that heat+air+dexcool = brown sludge. I will probably never own another GM product, but to those who do--get that Dexcool **** out of there.

Well,its been about 2 months and the blue devil **** i put in my car to fix the coolant seals--is still holding strong!!!theres an idea

interesting, i noticed that there is a label that reads "use ONLY dex-cool" or something to that manner. anything i have to change in the system to accomidate the regular shiz?

I don't think so, but it is important to thoroughly flush all traces of the old coolant out of the system before you put the green stuff in.



I know there's a class action lawsuit pending against GM because of this stuff. I hope it costs them a shitload of money. Fockers!
