Here is it as of today. I have had all the parts but have been slacking since I have been looking for work but the recent car repair and computer repairs I have done and the clientele I have been building I have been making some decent money with the unemployment that is. I installed a microtech yesterday and made $250 for the install sounds a little cheap huh? i should have charged more LOL i told the guy $250 his eyes lit up. But I made some time for the car.
Wont Be soon before she is on the road. 300hp 330lbft TQ yummy. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1627326_n.jpg |
Nice! I should work on my swap. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif
What swap you doing?
I have a Ford 302 and AOD tranny bolted into my vert, I just never finished it, haven't got it running yet.
It's got all the suspension from my coupe that I got rid of: KYB AGX and Eibach pro springs, poly bushings, DTSS eliminators, and a GXL LSD. |
if you need a hand i will take a trip to Tallahassee give you a hand for the weekend i just need a place to crash while im there LOL.
That's tempting!
lol when i lived in naples I cried one day cause i was in so much pain from doing everything my self LOL. sometimes a helping hand is worth the persons weight in gold.
I just did the radiator frame today my cousin helped me do the welding i did the measuring. Came out pretty good if i might say so my self. Had to kill the radiator support and hood latch so i need to get some hood pins and a new radiator hose. i put it angled like the original fc radiator was but its bigger rad so had to trim the inside of the hood a bit due to the radiator cap coming in contact with the hood. i will take pictures in the morning time to go to bed LOL.
Probably coud've used a larger aftermarket one meant for the fc llol
I cut out the radiator support, but put in a new one straight vertical. I just took some U-channel and bolted it to the tow hook bolts with some 90 degree sheet metal, nothing fancy. Hood latch is fine, though.

How much should one expect to spend on a swap like yours? My son want's a V8 swap and I would like to give him some realistic figures. Thanks.
Depends on goals/available parts (do you have a donor vehicle?)/tools/experience (will you have to hire someone to do certain things?).
Check out grannysspeedshop.com and norotors.com. |
The swap is more about how complete your donor car is or power plant is. I had to piece mine together i got motor and a auto trans for $1k decided to go manual another $800 for trans. about $300 wiring
So far I have spent about 3K including this head gasket job i did now only work I out sourced was the pcm modifications. |
Sweet.
hope to drive it up to stewart soon for a little fishing trip with scotty do ! ! !

2 Attachment(s)
Update ! ! ! !
Here is what my engine bay looks like as of 1/31/2011 Attachment 16491 radiator ground clearance Attachment 16492 |
Your subframe looks low, is the whole car lowered?
No its not lowered im guessing from the 26 year old suspension and the weight of the new motor its a little lower the control arms should be straight horizontal but they are a little up from horizontal.
Looks good! I'm a little worried about my rad clearance, I've got mine sitting completely vertical.
yeah that was why i re did mine. My rad was vertical but was siting lower than the tow hooks so i said no no. i re did the frame but i should have made it a bolt on and not welded on like my cousin did. he helped me weld the frame together but he was rushed for time so we welded it on.
i would like to remove the frame and make some brackets so i can remove the frame if needed. right now if i have to remove the front crank hub i would have no space to put the puller on there. |
That's why mine is vertical too, the pulley setup I originally had (Fox body style front dress) would have put the main pulley pretty much inside the radiator. But I switched to the SN95 style, which moves all the pulleys closer to the engine, so I think I'll readdress the radiator mount issue when I get the engine running.
looking good.
Does anyone know whatever happened to Jimlabs build? |
The best I could find, posted yesterday on norotors.com:
No, the car isn't finished. I am. It's time to stop pretending I'll ever care about finishing my car, so I'm putting it up for sale soon on both forums. I'm sure this will make some of you very happy. Line up for a kick to the nuts, if that's the way you roll, and tell me how I "failed" to finish it. While quite true, it would be more accurate to say that, for a large number of reasons, I eventually failed to care about finishing it. There is a difference. IIRC, the speedo says ~17k miles, but it was sent to Australia for recalibration and reprinted with a top speed of 240 mph, so the chassis still has the same ~13k miles it had on it when I pulled the last running motor out of the car on Sunday, May 17, 1998. Yep, it's been 12 years, 8 months, and 12 days (and counting) since I last drove the car. Now that's a record. New paint (in 2002), new 19" Volk wheels and Pole Position S-03s, new Racing Brake big brake kit (still in boxes, actually), new Cobra IRS w/all the best parts... the list goes on. Any guesses on what I'm going to ask for it? [quoter name=jimlab]
Are you even looking to part it out Jim? I would like to see the list of stuff if you are I"m sure I would get a few things.
If I can't get what I want for it, I'll probably part it out. Call it silliness, but I really don't care anymore. It's like having to live with your ex-wife. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif
link to thread |
Wow, that's actually kind of depressing.
yeah cant believe he gave up. i got to that point on my build but crossed that speed bump
And - was hoping Jim would have installed an ISIS system
what is a isis system
Never mind looked it up. Thats some cool **** right there.
Should be fun. I hope
I tried reading about ISIS, apparently it's way over my head. How is this different/better than the traditional alternative?
its a nice piece of hard ware a little complicated but saves you the trouble of having to run a bunch of relays and gives you control of how the switch behaves. but IMO there is better things you can spend 1K on.

Naot having to deal with 40 year old wiring: PRICELESS |
got my exhaust welded up first time welding so they are not the cleanest welds but they should hold up.
