So any of you guys ever make potatoe guns? My friend and I made some nice ones last year before the 4th of July. This year we are going to have an all out potatoe gun making party. We had one come apart on us once, but we were drunk as hell so it was kinda funny (bare in mind I was the one pulling the trigger so I didn't laugh so much when I almost caught fire) . We have been using hairspray as fuel, but were thinking maybe propane would work good. My friend has a big bottle of nitrous oxide in his garage that we were thinking of testing out.

Yea I have always used hairspray, the nitro would prolly blow the gun to bits, but who knows.

My buddy was always wanting to try carb cleaner in his dad's potato gun.

Damn, not a bad idea, that wouldn't take much a little air hose connection, and bam you are in business.

pneumatic potato guns are a helluva lot better and safer than combustion ones. if your get the right pvc it can be rated to 300 psi. now with hair spray you get somthing like 20. for my engineering class we built a pneumatic one that shot a tennis ball 120 yards on 70 psi of pressure.

In my misspent youth, we used to make driveshaft cannons. You cut off the end of a drive shaft, make a little hole in the other end, fill it with welding gas's and shoot beer cans full of cement. Of course we didn't realize this was very dangerous. Now I've gotten a little wiser(not!), I have a cannon made by Southbend Replicas(web site), that shoots a 1" ball and takes 440 grains of black powder. Sound about like a half stick of dynamite!
