So, for christmas, I got a Zokata ZR Pocketbike. Works great, 'cept the tail faring cracked the first time I rode it. Reinforcement suggestions anyone?

fiberglass?

Rob x-7 12-27-2004 09:56 PM

they are plastic, if you use fiberglass I would use epoxy resin not polyester resin.

My pocketbike is about half the size of yours, phins! She is TINY! So my idea is to cut the faring in half under the seat pad. Then reinforce the seat pan with a welded on 'fin' that supports the tail, move the rear half of the faring back 1 inch (clearance), fill the gap under the seat pad with a steel plate (leave the gap in the body on the side) and bolt the seat cover back on. I think that'll give me more ass room and more support at the same time.

Ever had vapor lock on your PB?

They are made of fiberglass, the parts just look like plastic. I've used 2part epoxy on mine. You cand sand/paint it. It has more flex than fiberglass and it's less messy.

93R1's broken seat was plastic, it was VERY plastic.

Sinful7 12-28-2004 11:52 AM

Mine is definetly plastic. From what I understand it's usually the 'high end' bikes that are fiberglass or CF.

psyclo 12-28-2004 12:29 PM

Well FRP bonds well with plastic, Im sure that epoxy resin would work to but it wont have the same strength as some decent fiberglass. It'll be more brittle because of the lack of the glass.

Sinful7 12-28-2004 01:55 PM

I think he was suggesting using epoxy resin with glass mat, as opposed to polyester resin..

loudazzrx7 12-28-2004 08:33 PM

Hey thats my pocket bike ---sweeeeet!

GreyGT-C 12-28-2004 08:38 PM

if that's your bike... you need to start a thread devoted to the chick sitting on it...

oh yeah.... that thread will be worthless without pics.

Sinful 7 is right, I didnt mean to coat the broken plastic in epoxy resin only to fix it

you cant even compare polyester resin to epoxies as far as strength goes.

Fix that seat with just 2 layers of epoxy resin coated 1.5oz matting and it will be plenty strong.
