Im talking to this kid who imed me and says like dumb **** like a rotary is like a jet engine. IM like no its not its has circular motion doesnt mean they are the same. Or that its a 2 stroke engine. or that we use a KKM, which frode actually conceived while wankel got the dkm.

what stupid stuff have ya heard?

Eric Happy Meal 10-12-2003 02:28 AM

I've been told an SA's 12A could spin past 12k RPM (or maybe it was 24k?). Crack smoker B.

yeah people tell me that they car rev to 20k https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Jeff20B 10-12-2003 09:44 AM

Here's a thread where a guy thinks a rotary will lock up if the OMP is not working, or there is no premix. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Then when I try to correct him, he comes back as if he didn't even read my whole post (all two sentences lol). I think he's a member here and on the 'club' forum. http://frost.bbboy.net/vwengineconversions...orum=1&thread=6

I don't want to make him feel stupid, but he's handing out shoddy advice to potential rotary VW owners. First it's about the OMP. Next it's about how to remove the rat's nest and adding a catch can (isn't that a honduh boy trick?) What do I do?

Here is that rat's nest/catch can thread: http://frost.bbboy.net/vwengineconversions...rum=1&thread=70

Check it out: http://frost.bbboy.net/vwengineconversions What do you guys think? (that forum needs more rotary VW people, hehe)

Dumb kids, hah, the most frequent thing I hear when people are talking about rotary engines is that they have "no redline."

TyresmokinRx7 10-12-2003 11:10 AM

I agree with that, I've been told before that my diff is what gives my drag racing car the HP that it's got and it came from a honda owner.

apexkw 10-12-2003 11:55 AM

someone once tried to convince me that he was going to buy a rx7 that had a 18brew engine. i was like wtf...

well its just a suggestion https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Fingers 10-12-2003 12:33 PM

Someone once told me that since the rotor has three faces, the engine actually spins three times faster than the tach indicates https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Fingers 10-12-2003 12:35 PM

Actually even better than that... someone once told me that they were considering buying an RX7 but changed their mind due to the head gasket problems. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

whats so wrong about that .... my headgasket blew a month ago

relisys190 10-12-2003 02:07 PM

Well, heres one for the gang. When i bought my current FC.. damn thing wouldnt start, i was somewhat smart when it came to rotary engines.. i cranked it over a few times (she seemed flooded) i asked him what he thought was wrong with it... he said he took it to the dealer and they told him that the Headgasket was blown. WTF!!! i ended up buying my current car for 800$ started it in front of him and had my friend follow me home. needless to say, the dude wasnt happy

convo with my cousin, an Eclipse guy:

me: I got an RX-7. It's got a rotary engine, you know?

him: Naawwww, dawg! Them things are awesome, they never need the oil changed!

me: ...uh... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

what stupid stuff have ya heard?

actually, i've heard it is like a 2-stroke, since for every rotation of the eccentric shaft there is a power "stroke". a 4 cycle, 2 stroke engine. ahh, the amazing wonder of the wankel...

My favorite:

When I'm at a gas station and a guy says, thats a small motor, how many cylinders?

Me: Whats a cylinder?

Guy: You know, pistons?

Me: What the hells a piston?

Guy: Nevermind.

Heh...I love doing that to people.

Baldy 10-13-2003 01:26 PM

Insurance company, when signing for new policy:

"how many cylinders does it have?"

me: "it doesn't have any, it's a twin rotor engine."

IC rep: "....um..."

me: "screw it, just put down 6."

idiot!!....shoulda said it was an electric-gas hybrid......according to insurance companies a sports car with more cyl = more power = more money for insurance costs

treceb 10-13-2003 01:43 PM

or could have said it was a 3 cylinder.

ive gotten the, "u can rev to forever, redline, 12k..." a lotta times. it just sucks that so many ppl believe what everyday magazines tell them, cause ive gotten the "that engine sucks cause it has to be rebuild every 60 to 80k miles."

Nice, a dose of their own medicine.

Jeff20B 10-13-2003 02:14 PM

When insurance etc asks you how many pistons it has, just tell them four (because it it's got four spark plugs). Yeah, don't tell them six.

When someone says it's a two stroke, first of all, that person is obviously confused and/or doesn't know what he's talking about, and second, you could confuse him even more by saying it mimics all four strokes of a conventional four stroke engine, but the catch is there are three rotor faces per rotor, and each one is geared 3:1. So if anything, it's closer to a three stroke. This is really cool to do to those people that tell you a rotary makes power like a two stroke because it has power every time it's at TDC, or whatever the argument is. Next, you could ask them how many strokes a three rotor engine has, since there are three rotors in it. I guess with that logic, a one rotor engine would be a one stroke? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

In 1986, did Mazda have a gas-electric hybrid on the market?

And I'm not going to lie, because with my luck, they'll find out (it wouldn't take much research to figure that one out).

GEICO dropped my motorcycle policy, just because I parked in a carport rather than a garage, despite the fact that it's walled on 2 sides, and not visible from the street. I'm not going to make another dumbass mistake that would cause me to have to change insurance again.

Jeff20B 10-13-2003 02:19 PM

Or better yet, when someone tells you a rotary is a two stroke, tell that person a rotary actually has these four positions: suck, squeeze, bang, blow. So, yeah, there's only two there, alright. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Jeff20B 10-13-2003 02:20 PM

GEICO? I'd reather use guide-coat.
