i'm a seagate fan... though i've used maxtor for 7+ years, i had my old 30 gig fail on me within the 5 year warranty and they sent me a refurb 40... good cusomter service

Was that a scsi? My Maxtor diamondmax 9 is screwy and I think it is only a 1 year warranty.

I've had bad experience with Maxtor.

My BRAND NEW Maxtor 30 gig died on me within 9 months. Piece of junk. Turned out it was defective, and they sent out a bunch of defective ones to people and were getting all kinds of returns.

So the store hooked me up with a new Seagate 40 gig 7200 rpm. No complaints.

My last seagate drive lasted over 5 years.

Western digital is looking pretty good too.

I likes the Western Digital i have a 6 year old 4 gig that i have dropped and it still works flawlessly in 4 different computers, i have a 40 gig in my comp now that is 2 years old and I've also never experienced any problems with it, the 1 or 2 Seagate drives I've owned (a 10 gig and 30 gig) crapped out on me within 2-3 years..

Is there a noticable difference in speed between 2mb and 8mb cache??

yes!!! it makes more differance than speed. I've seen tests where 8mb at 5400 were much faster than 2mb at 7200rpm
