I have to admire the craftsmanship, It comes turbocharged, the only way to go with a desile. man, this word checker sux.

winger 08-14-2003 09:20 PM

that would make a pretty damn fast golf cart

phinsup 08-14-2003 10:32 PM

No it would make a very LARGE golf cart LOL

RX7Aggie 08-14-2003 10:41 PM

did it say what it was used to power? submarine? ford f-950?

Striker 08-15-2003 02:28 AM

its for cargo ships. large sea vessels.

Srce 08-15-2003 02:41 AM

That thing could rape a T88 LOL

Digisan 08-15-2003 05:53 AM

Old one, but a good one

Jerk_Racer 08-15-2003 07:01 AM

Only 108,920 hp at 102 rpm and 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm? That's freaking weak. If it made the same hp/liter as a '02 FD it'd make about 5,400,000 hp. Who designed this thing? GM? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

kkw4p 08-15-2003 08:24 AM

It's not making the same HP per litre because it only runs at 102 RPM! Remember HP = (torque*RPM)/5252. If we could rev it up to 5252 RPMs, assuming that it held the same torque number it'd make... 5,608,312 hp. For the 14 cylinder version at 25,480 liters that would be 220 hp per liter. GM doesn't come close to that.

Baldy 08-15-2003 08:40 AM

if you could rev it up to 5252 rpm, it would probably suck up anything and everything not bolted down, within a 20 mile radius

WishIhadaRX7 08-15-2003 08:43 AM

Imagine the noise that puppy would make at that speed.

I don't think I'd hear anything, because I'd be deaf.

"if an incredibly large diesel engine, at 5252 rpm, deafens everyone around, does it make a sound?"

kkw4p 08-15-2003 08:47 AM

Well... hell.. I was ignoring the fact that to get a stroke of 98" to spin to 5252 RPMs the piston would have to be moving somewhere around 10% of the speed of light.

That ain't happenin' any time soon.

wraith 08-15-2003 08:59 AM

and it really isn't that fast....the power to weight ratio for the engine alone is 2tons to 1hp.....SLOW

it would run about a 99.89 sec quarter mile....hehehehe

Baldy 08-15-2003 09:16 AM

I can already see Bond trapped in one of the cylinders in the next Pierce Brosnan flick.

Rotarydragon 08-15-2003 11:30 AM

The old mine sweeping ships in WWII were powered by a giant Packard disel (no I'm not kidding) They would roll out the main bearings by putting a guy in the oil pan and sliding him under the engine.

The screws to drive the propopeller were so big and expensive the navy had to rent them

1Revvin7 08-15-2003 11:34 AM

Wow, that sweet. quiet the engineering feat..

rx-7_rice_rocket 08-15-2003 01:11 PM

a 99.89 sec quarter!? must be a Ford design!

Eric Happy Meal 08-15-2003 01:20 PM

wow i didnt realize how much it weighed......

i wanna live in one.
