Seems like bullshit to me. If it is true then thats just stupid?

I dunno, I'm pretty pissed off with the stereo in my Focus because I can't get one the same with an auxillary input, might be good to go back to a generic size at least.

Tuesday, January 4 12:00 AM ET Auto Makers Forced To Unbundle Stereo from Vehicles By Jeremy Mikesell Detroit, MI – A ruling today by the Michigan Supreme Court will force Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota and Volkswagen to stop installing stereos in vehicles sold in the US by the end of January 2005. The antitrust suit filed by Sony against the automakers claimed the manufacturers use their monopoly in the automobile market to lock out third-party suppliers of car stereos. The suit also claimed that automakers engineered their cars to make use of alternate stereos difficult or impractical. The sole reason for this is to prevent users from switching to an aftermarket stereo. John McNeal lead counsel for the automakers had this to say about the ruling and possible appeals. "There are still several arguments in this case that will need to be weighed seriously and we feel that our odds in the appeals process look good. For the sake of the consumer we can only hope that this decision is reversed quickly." Many in the industry feel the biggest winners are the makers of aftermarket car audio equipment and companies specializing in installing stereos. New cars will no longer be able to play any form of media as shipped, so consumers wishing to listen to the radio or CD's will be forced to have a stereo installed. "This is a great decision for the industry and the consumer. No longer will consumers be forced to use the inadequate and seamlessly integrated stereos provided by the automakers," said Michel Tso representative for Sony. "The consumer will only see benefits from this. They will now have limitless options for a stereo and will not be forced to pay for a stereo they don't want." McNeal counters that this ruling will result in an increase in the base price of all cars of about $1000 for the next five years. "While our cost for the stereo itself is only $15 the cost of retooling production facilities to meet the requirements of this ruling will be staggering. We have no choice but to pass these costs onto the consumer." |
they listen to 107.8 the river and johnny cash on analog tape.
sony wants to make all the time it took old people to read the manual and figure out how to use the stock radio just like they did when they owned a 62 thunderbird and THROW IT RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW!!!! ****** bastards. |
I knew sony sucked ass, but this takes the ass suckingness to a whole new level.

I don't see how a State Court can Mandate a regulation for the whole nation. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/bsflag.gif I'll have to raise the flag on this one |
they make a lot of cars in michigan >?
|
One problem is, the single DIN units are harder to use for some people because the unit is so small.
My sister's 6 has the gay integrated sterio thing, but it is soooo easy to use because of the nice big buttons. |
Crapola! Even if the Supreme court did, in fact, make such a ruling, it would be quickly snuffed in the appeals process.
My guess is it's the beginning of a ploy to force car manufacturing companies to put the stereo system components up for bid in the open market, which isn't a bad idea, until you think about the largest stereo manufacturing companies being able to always submit the lowest bid, due to their enormus buying power of all the components to make their products. |
the stereo in my toyota is made by Pioneer, so i guess its exemp from this case?
edit// Its the stock stereo |
I think this is not true...
|
I bet it's fake. No real journalist would have such poor typing skills. Either way, it's just another reason to not buy a new car.
|
Did anyone look at the related links?
|
you morons
|
i love car stereos.. mmmmm music.... and BS.. many manufacturers make a business out of offering factory replacement upgrades.. and I know for a fact Clarion and Alpine and pioneer make stereos for the automakers.. if it were even remotely true.. it would be because sony is jealous that nobody cares for their expensive products...
|
I wouldn't be surprised if this was aimed at Ford..ever seen the 95+ Tauruses radios? Can't get rid of it, HVAC is built in to the radio...BIG pain in the ass..plus no radio would fit :P
Sean |
I like clarion and Alpine.. those are my two favorite radio companies..
and I like rx7s and B series trucks.. so no need for a new car.. let them stick it to all the new car people.. |
lol
They couldn't possibly force something like this to happen in less than a month. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif |

Sean they make installation kits for them. Fits an aftermarket single din just fine. The escort is the same way, and I installed a cd player in one of those a couple days ago. |
