a) duh

b) what about the 5th kid who crashes without a car?

phinsup 09-30-2009 12:32 PM

I see the issue with teen accidents as this; when i was a kid you bought your own car, got a job, bought a piece of ****, worked on it, upgraded it, etc. etc... you didn't want to get in an accident with that fucker because you'd be without a car and thus without vagina. Two of the worst things a highschool kid can be faced with. NOW mommy and daddy buys the kid a car, usually something newer and in decent shape and the kid has no concept of what it costs to own, maintain and in some cases even insure the car.

Maxt 09-30-2009 08:02 PM

Yeah I'd agree with that... Especially when you hear some kid whining how he has to drive his Dad's old POS Escalade..

My first vehicle was a written off Dodge Ramcharger that I resurrected from the dead... No vehicle meant bus pass or school bus, not cool at all..

It is the age of entitlement, be it kids, hollywood schmucks or politicians..

phinsup 09-30-2009 09:15 PM

81 Buick Regal, paid $1000 for it, only had 36000 miles on it and was still a pile of ****. 3.8 litre v6, 0-60 in 4 hours 60-100 in 2 seconds, no low end on that thing. Repainted it, replaced the valve cover gaskets and sold it for $3800, bought my 84 CJ-7 that I owned for the next 10 years.

Maxt 09-30-2009 09:22 PM

You can only rock a regal if you have a mullet.

Painted it black, tinted the windows, sold it to a hispanic young man https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

I didn't get my license until I was 17. I had the extra car but wasn't allowed to drive to school unless I had a job or played a sport that required me to stay late. I had to take the bus if I wasn't involved in something. I had a 88 Mazda MX-6. I love that car, I took the best care of that old thing. It was a sad day when I was hit in it, but it wasn't my fault. My son is getting the old Honda when he turns 17, not daddy's sports car.

Baldy 10-01-2009 10:22 AM

I'm actually surprised it's ONLY 1 in 4, I figured it would be something like 3 in 4.

Didn't get my license until I was 18. I dragged an old POS motorcycle out from under some guy's deck, said if I could get it running I would buy it from him. $1,000 later I got it running, and he just gave it to me.

My first car was the gold FC, which my wife bought for me, haha.

j9fd3s 10-01-2009 04:20 PM

lmao my first car was also a gold FC, it looked the same the day i sold it as the day i bought it, but it just smoked a lot more....

knowing what i know now, the thermal pellet died (or was dead), i should have kept it, non sunroof, low mileage...

its funny the current GXL is actually lower mileage, total deja vu... thermal pellet works in this one

My Dad gave a guy he worked with $500 bucks for my first car--a '73 RX-2 4-door with 58k on it. Motor was replaced by Mazda under a class action lawsuit. The motor only had about 15k on it when I got it. I drove that thing for 5 years and sold it for $425.

You could have probably got a few hundred more out of it, by throwing in a Nightranger album.

66 ford pickup with 8" of slop in the non-power steering and all 4 shocks broke through the mounts. 4 speed that it was mostly guessing how to do the 2-3 shift, no synchros in 1st. lifters clattered for years until it dropped a valve and stuck a rod through the block on my brother.

it was a farm truck mostly used for picking rocks. Used a big hammer jammed between the gas pedal and the seat to get it to idle on cold mornings

First vehicle I ever drove was an 1987 Mazda b2000. We had a 66 Dodge, my dad bought it and we fixed it up, swapped the motor, did some body work was kind of fun for a 12 year old, you know learning all that ****, although the first motor I rebuilt was 4 years later..... it was out of a ghia and we did it in the living room.

89 Rag 12-17-2009 06:53 AM

My first ride was a 91 S-10, I beat on it like it would never break, it broke. I then had a series of shitters, a 76 courier pick-up flintstone style, 2 83 FB's, 1 85 FB (should have kept it), 96 powerstroke (boom) it died quick. I've had the 89 FC for 12 years now and the 01 S-10 for 9. The sloppy steering nod cracked me up, for three summers I drove my bosses 72 C-10, auto converted to three on the floor, same shitty shocks and sloppy wheel, loaded with paint and crossing railroad tracks that thing would shimmy down the road for miles

GreyGT-C 12-17-2009 09:44 AM

thats crazy Phins.. my first car was an early 80's Regal that i traded for my 79 CJ7.

There is a 17 kid here in my town that "mommy and daddy" just bought a 2010 SS Camaro.... he also has a pair of $800 sunglasses. (my buddy's daughter is in his HS class)

thatpoorguy 12-23-2009 11:43 AM

that's some bs. in high school i got me the hand me down pos 92 s-10 5 speed and i totalled it within a few months. i had to pay my parents back for it WITH interest lol. after that i got a 76 catalina that was able to survive my driving style through the rest of high school lol. i miss that battleship haha

1988RedT2 12-23-2009 12:47 PM

No way was I allowed a car in high school. I think I got permission to borrow Mom's car exactly twice my senior year.

Baldy 12-23-2009 12:50 PM

I took the bus my senior year. It's nice catching a few extra Zs on the way to/from school. After marching band practice, I would bum rides from people or walk the 4 miles home. I didn't get my license until after I graduated high school.

phinsup 12-23-2009 05:15 PM

I had an 81 Buick regal, paid $1000 for it with only 36,000 miles on it. Was a pile of ****, but I drove it from sophmore to senior year, then I bought a CJ-7.
