Im new to the forum and pretty new to rotary engines, however I would love nothing more than to pick up a 3rd gen RX7. Ive been scanning autotraders and other classified ads, but I dont know specifically what to look for in a good RX7. Im no master mechanic but I know an exhaust system from a steering wheel, so I guess that puts me in the top 1%? Anyhow, to hear it from the people who actualy own RX7s and in my book, have a bit more credibility on the subject than the few biased, buys-only-domestics opinions I have received, I have a few questions that would help me out quite the bit:

- If I understand correctly, the 3rd gens were produced from 93-95, however most of what I have seen for sale are 93s. Im assuming that is on the account of a proportionately larger amount of them being produced than the other years. My question here is, is there any major difference between the 3 years that would make one particular year more of a sound purchase than others?

- I have heard a few different terms being slinged around as types of RX7s, like R2 and touring, etc. What are the different kinds of RX7s and what, again, would be the sound purchase?

- One thing I have seen advertised in RX7 ads is new engines. Since there is a slight bit of frequency with this particular perk, I have come to the idea that maybe RX7 engines dont have the longest of lifespans. How true is this? And what is the life expectancy of just a daily-driven, no modifications RX7 engine?

- In one particular issue of Auto Trader, I have found 8 RXs for sale (all 93s) and the average price seems to be split between half in the 12,000-14,000 range and the others at 17,000-20,000 (the 20k being a 'Peter Farrel' race package) with mileages all across the board (some engines were rebuilt, and thus had less than a thousand miles on them), though I would say an average was around 60,000 miles. I suppose my question is difficult because vehicle quality has to be thrown into the factor here, but with a good condition 60k mile 5 speed RX, what would be a ballpark figure I would expect to pay?

- I know one problem I have heard from a few different places on the net that the RX has is engine overheating. Easily remedied I suppose, but what else is a problem to look out for thats more specific to RX7s?

I think for now thats all the questions I have offhand and I do appreciate any responses. Also, any direction to information sources on RXs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the 94s and 95s fixed a few problems with the 93s, but they should all be the same by now.

you will only have major problems if you dont know what u r doing. if you do know your rotary, expect around 60-75,000 miles.

sorry bout the other questions, but i have to take a break at answering questions like these for a while.
