here is what sasser did to me.
monday night went to bed(I leave my pc on 24/7) tuesday morning my computer was magically rebooted, and hung up at the initial test screen. My hard drive dissapeared!! Went into bios, it was gone, and my 1'st boot device(ide-0) was disabled. Did auto detect, found the HD. set boot device to ide0. rebooted cpu worked. 5 min. later got the BSOD, rebooted, same ****, HD was gone!!! First install the MS patch and reboot. Then use the tool on that first link I posted. Follow the directions carefully. You MUST disable system restore, and you MUST disconnect your computer from the internet. |

sasser has nothing to do with you opening any files or looking at pron. It gets into your system buy pinging your box, looking for open ports. Specifically 9996, and 445.
9996 is the port most of us use for fxp purposes. so we all got slammed. I think it was sent out by the government !@ |
Hooray for me, no virus!
Go Firewall!!!! |
our school got slammed pretty hard
here is the link to correcting the problem http://www.udel.edu/topics/virus/mcafee/win/sasser.html hope that helps man, i had it yesterday |
the xp patch is in it, and you can get free macafee through that site too as well as the stinger thingy
|
Definately the Sasser dealy
|
Fixed, thanks Jay.
|
Thanks guys, my mother-in-law's computer must have the same thing. Whenever it dials up, it wants to reboot. So after disabling the system reboot thing, it won't want to reboot? Is that how you are able to d/l the fix?
|
His system shut down after running MS PAINT! LOL!
|
man, sometimes I wish I ran windows, that way I could get all those cool free programs you all get. =) Actually, I am going to be running WinXP on my new box, if the parts ever get here, but I run updated systems, and I am behind a kickass SmoothWall router, so the first I heard about the Sasser worm was people asking how to fix it. hooray for linux.
