Here's the deal, and I need serious answers please.
I had to move out of my dorm in May, and had planned on moving in with my Grandfather for the summer. Shortly before I moved, my uncle offered to let me use his apartment, because it's in the same town as my school, and he's in Germany, so he wasn't using it. He never mentioned a price, just said I could stay there for the summer since he had to pay rent anyway. He was planning on moving out in the end of August, and I could find a new place then. He never ended up coming home in August, so me, RD, and my grandfather moved all of his stuff into my new apartment, in the same building. He came back in September and was telling me that he was going to charge me for the time I lived in his apartment. The thing is, if he had mentioned it before I moved in, I wouldn't have moved there. What would you do? |
well he should have said that before you moved in. i think is fair if you paid something though, you did live there. but again he should have said something and in the absence of a contract or something you are not on the hook for anything
mike |
first off your uncle is a jackass, second that's not fair of him to ask you to pay if he didn't say anything first... i'd tell him to **** himself and that you moving his **** was all the payment he should expect
|
I say since he never mentioned a price to begin with you should just give him a fair amount of money and thats it.
|
Work out a comprimise, family is too important to lose contact with over money
|
how much does he want you to pay?
mike |
I would offer to pay utilities, but no more. Since you moved his **** out of his apartment for him while he was away, I can't believe he'd try to collect full rent.
|
He's asking for $100/month plus all of the utilities. It's a fair amount, assuming we agreed there would be a payment, but I don't like the idea that he thinks he can give me a "bill" a few months later. He also agreed to give me $150/month on the apartment I have now to store his stuff and keep his car in my garage, but I haven't seen any of that, because I was paying him back for the security deposit, which is still in his name with the landlord.

I never thought we'd see eye to eye on anything.

**** that! It's family! If you wanted payment you tell them up front! It's only fair! You can't do it to a stranger?? Why a family member! It's one of those things, if you offered, and he refused! It'd be cool! I might offer the bills, but not the rent! **** That! Sucks how family can be so Ghey!! |

is he taller? i would see how much he owes you and how much you owe him, and see what the difference is
mike He says I owe him $300 for the rent, about $260 for utilities (need to see a bill on that one...my utilities now are about $25-35/month), and $90 for the carpet cleaning (which he should pay for, because it's part of the lease.) He doesn't owe me rent yet as long as he tells the landlord that the security deposit is my money, but I think if he's charging me to live in his old apartment, I should charge him for moving his stuff. How much would it cost to have an entire 2 bedroom apartment moved (nothing was packed or anything else) and cleaned (windows and stuff that he would have to clean whether I lived there or not)? |

He's in a squeeze for a few hundred bucks. Sounds like he's trying to swindle you. I wouldn't give him ****. But if family is important to you... Give him utilities. Nothing else. At least those he could have had power over..
|
The utilities on the new place are in my name, so it's not like he could get me shut off, but I'd still offer to pay the ones for while I lived in his place.
I am pretty sure he's trying to weasel his way out of paying me for as long as possible...he doesn't really work, he just lives off of his new wife and random computer work. |
Buy an insurance policy on him. Guarantee me 25%, and I'll ******* kill him.

Give him his money and tell him he has a day to get his **** out of there because his security deposit money used towards keeping his junk in your place has ran out.
He obviously needs the money bad. I like the silent treatment myself and not letting someone like that think I give a **** about any of it. Lessons learned in life- people get fucked up when it comes to money, family or not. |
I still say kill him.
|
i wanted to say "just utilities", but that gets cancelled out by the move.
your uncle is a piece of ****. KILL HIM! |
i hate people like that !
|
KILL HIM
|
if it was me i would feel forry for the old bastard that he has to rip off his own grandson and i would pay the whole thing. I did stay there and use the utilties. what can i say, i feel so for the old guy. your own grandson, who is trying to get through college
|
!^@*#@!#@#?????
WTF is he talking about now YOU have been PAYING then rent on that apartment last I checked, not Mr I suck so bad at life I conned some poor German lady into putting up with me and fled the states. I think his Probe needs to be accidently sold. |
LOL....too many votes to kill him...can't fight peer pressure. Anyone want a 94 Probe GT with 40K miles? I should part it out each month he refuses to pay me. The rims are 16x7...they would look good on an FC. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
Seriously, though...I'm just looking forward to getting out of this lease in August and never looking back. TurboII, it was my uncle, not grandfather. My grandfather has been extremely helpful since I moved out here. |
