What's a good, inexpensive acoustic guitar for me to learn on?

So far I'm looking at Washburn, Fender Squier, and Ibanez. Your opinions on those brands and others would be appreciated.

Well, that certainly clears things up.

Washburns are nice, I had two P-2's. My ibanez 6 acoustic is still one of my favorites also. But I am not a big fan of their electrics. I had a few and never much liked em. I would stick to the Fenders. They have nice wide fret boards and the action is always good on Fenders even the cheap Mexican made ones. I would get a Squire Strat or Tele.

You would really like the sound of a Jag or old mustang if you can find one.

Also make sure to play some Gibsons also, they are nice also.

There is also Martin (great, but expensive). I personally like the Ibanez. (Squier is the made in China version of Fender)

I messed with a '74 Strat a couple weeks ago, but they're a little out of my price range until I decide I'm going to get serious. I don't want to spend a lot now and let it sit in a closet collecting dust. If I'm still playing a lot in a year I'll get something nicer.

humm...

i have a gibson les paul custom lite

and a fender delux american

i love them both

i used to have an ibanex, bbut as dave said they do suck pretty bad. i did like the neck, nice and flat.

rfreeman27 06-26-2003 03:36 PM

so for acoustic i would look at the cheeper fenders. Even if they arent american made the quality is always pretty good.

turbovr6 06-26-2003 04:12 PM

you guys are all burnt! ED get an Ovation!!!! You won't be sorry. The round back ovations are some of the best sounding acoustics out there. I know the price is high, but even the lowest priced ones still sound sweet. I have an Ovation acoustic electric. It's the only one I've kept(sold off 5 others). It retails for only around $500.

turbovr6 06-26-2003 04:13 PM

and bring it to rotorfest, we can jam LOL

rfreeman27 06-26-2003 04:16 PM

ovations are cool also, i ALMOST bought one, but skipped out and got a new amp instead

UniqueTII 06-26-2003 04:45 PM

The Ovations are a little out of my current price range...I don't want that much money going to waste like with my mountain bike.

9BASE3 06-26-2003 05:29 PM

I have an Ovation acoustic/electric. It's nice. But the roundbacks don't produce the sound a good ol fashioned acoustic does. I have 2 Yamaha 6-string acoustics. By far, one of THE BEST guitars for a reasonable price. You can get them used at a music shop for a hundred bucks or so. After all, you wanna learn.... No need to get an expensive guitar if you come to find out you dont even enjoy playing that much... Learn your chords on a less expensive guitar... When you pick up an Ovation... You'll friggin fly. The necks are much smaller and smoother... easier to play. Aw ****... Is it post pics of your studio setup time? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I was just looking at a Yamaha before I came back on here. RD has several guitars, as does 1revin7 and my roommate-to-be Justin, so I'll have one of them go shopping with me sometime next week. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

rfreeman27 06-26-2003 07:10 PM

i have a old yamaha....good guitar for the money

fritzfry 06-26-2003 07:17 PM

i think for starting out, any of the inexpensive ones mentioned above will work well...as long as you don't get those $40 ones like my brother which he tuned, hit one chord and it was out of tune again, LOL. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

UniqueTII 06-26-2003 09:26 PM

Ha...that wouldn't be cool.

drifter 06-27-2003 01:13 AM

I've got a Yamaha bass, it cost me about $500. I love it.

You do get what you pay for most of the time if you know what I mean.

I like Ibanez too, although I think their a bit heavy (weight)

You should go for a Yamaha or an Ibanez to get yourself a reasonable guitar for the price. Don't buy guitars made in taiwan, thats the best advice I can give you! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

BigTurbo74 06-27-2003 01:48 AM

i got an alvarez regent. i got it for christmas and don't really know if it is a good or bad guitar since i have nothing to compare it to, anyone know if it is a quality or nothing special?

Leetheslacker 06-27-2003 02:14 AM

I ahve an old KAY my dad gave to me, i try to play a little...

Dysfnctnl85 06-28-2003 11:27 AM

Takamine is the best price/quality ratio you can get for an acoustic.

I got mine for $199 and I LOVE it.
