Ok so here is my reality forum drama.

Timeline:

12:15am Friday - inspect damage; broken balljoint, bent tie rod and funky camber

1am Friday- drunk

9:45am Friday - car up on jackstands wheels off

11am Friday - steering rack out, ball joint off, pictures taken

11:30am Friday - create post



Planned:

6pm Friday - Work at Vikings game

11pm Friday - Drive to WI (I am in MN)

3am Sat - parts car up on stands wheels off

11am Sat - Drive back to MN

3pm Sat - Start wrenching

Sunday - pack for camping and move to IN

Monday - Go camping

Wed - Drive to IN and hope nothing falls apart



So normaly this would be no big deal, stupid guy puts his car into a curb trying to slide around and break some front suspension stuff. Where the drama kicks in is that I need to drive to IN on Wed of this comming week(Oh **** your only going to have 6 days?, moron thats cake). Well it also so happens that I was planning on camping with some freinds Mon-Wed(starts to get a little more hairy). "cool" thing is I have a parts car in WI (4 hours away) that I can pull a ball joint off of. Only 1 steering rack between the two cars though so I think im going to get the tie-rod cherry hott and bend it back just so it can make it to IN and then replace it latter. I do however also need to figure out why the driver side wheel is rubbing against the spring seat on the shocks.



Note: Laugh at me, pitty me or give me advise but please dont bitch at me or give me a lecture I know I fucked up and I know drifting is stupid.

your lower control arm could be fucked up, to create enough force to snap that balljoint like that would be enough to bend that little alum. control arm.



honestly now, how fast were you going? ive seen people slide into curbs at 50mph and not sustain damage like that, theyve bent things but thats a serious crack, especially since im sure tons of research went into how to make that specific part not crack.



The lower control arm would be my first guess, i know the rear arms are super strong but im not sure about the fronts.



Eh, in your pics now that i look again the lower control arm looks straight. My guess therefore would be bent strut tube, broken upper strut mount, or a completely bent wheel, ive seen an STI wheel bend around the hub so it seems straight till you put it on the balancer and its all wobbley-gobbley.

I twisted the hub like it would when turning and the shock doesnt spin on the axis like the other side so my guess it a bent shock.



Last time I checked the speedo it said 30 so maybe it was more like 40. I was countersteering quite a bit (big mistake for going to hit a curb now that I think about it) so my guess it it hit the curb very squarly, and therefor very hard. The chassis of my car has 170k miles on it so the wear on the suspension parts may have contributed to the ball joint beaking more easily.

Yeah, I brushed a curb on a curve at 75mph, which threw me into ANOTHER curb at about 40, and I only bent two rims.



(2 lanes merge at end of curve, a$$ in front of me decided to hover both lanes at 35mph, wouldn't let me pass! Pass rear wheel brushed inside curb, kicked out sending me driver's-door-sideways towards the slower car, then spun 180 degrees into the outside curb. At 1am. In the worst part of the city. And I was a scared 17year old from the burbs...)

2am Sat - Arrive in WI

2:30 Sat -Drive and pass suspension assembly off

11am Sat - Wake up

12:30 am Sat - Tie-rod straightened and everything loaded up



So far so good...



Now I'm going to go wakeboarding and to have lunch with my dad, then its back to MN to finish the other half of the battle.

never mind, i thought you hit the rear, guess I should read more closely next time, lol

Turns out the shock was fine it was the hub that was fubared, It wouldnt even spin worth a damn.



so,

11:30 pm Sat - arrive home from WI

2:30am Sun - ball joint replaced, steering rack installed, driver side tire rubbing problem discovered

3am Sun - Sleep

11:30am Sun - Start work on car

1pm Sun - Car bolted back together and torqued to spec, wheels reasonably aligned

1:15pm Sun - Warmed up and ready for a test drive



Woohoo I hit my mark!

The car tracks to the right a little bit if left alone, I blame the inability to adjust the passenger side tie-rod as much as needed because it is only bent back and not new, new tie-rod is in the mail from MazdaTrix.



No vibrations up to 40mph despite diffrent wheels and tires.

the front of my fb sustained the same **** when i hit a curb at about the same speed.

Guess it just depends on how you hit the curb. Wheel and body angle.
