On Car and Driver Television on TNN, they compared the Mustang SVT Cobra, Infiniti G35 Coupe and the Mazda RX-8. They put the 3 cars through a series of tests and then ranked them. What they were trying to compare was the top 3 new 4 seater sports cars. The following is how they ranked and what was said about each.
#3 - Mustang: Has 390hp, 390 lb.-ft. torque and is great for straight line speed but that is about it. #2 - Infinit G35 Coupe: Didn't really say much about it but it beat out the mustang because it is well rounded in all areas. #1 - Mazda RX-8: Most agile car of the 3; lightest at 2940 lbs. which is 700lbs. lighter than the mustang and 500lbs. lighter than the Infiniti. Weight distribution is 52% at front axle and 48$ at rear axle. Only has 159 lb-ft of torque. Scored a 10 in the fun to drive category. They really loved the RX-8 and had a lot to say about it. They also really loved the mustang but it it wasn't as well rounded as the others. Just thought someone out there may be interested in this. Greg |

When I read this in the magazine, I had a hard time understanding the cars they chose. I can understand a comparison between the G35 and the RX-8, but why did they throw a Mustang in there? The backseat is nowhere close to usable, and it just isn't the same type of car. An SVT Cobra really isn't meant to be civil in any way, unlike the other two.
I think they should have used the G35, the RX-8, and find a 3 series BMW for kicks. |
I wondered the same thing when I watched the show. They qualified things by saying they were testing the newest 4 seat sports cars. They also said that the back seats needed to be functional so I guess they felt that the Mustang's were.
Is there anything really special about the 3 series BMW? I think it would have gotten its ass completely handed to it by the other two cars. Greg |
They placed the mustang in because they had a rotory car, a V6 car, so they thought to throw in a V8 just to show that a rotor is better and to show us that if you want a real car, to buy a rotary
|
They just didn't go for any ordinary V8 though. They chose a supercharged V8 in the mustang.

Nothing special about a BMW 3 series, other than I think it would have made a more interesting comparison. Back seat is nowhere close to usable in a Mustang, and I don't know how C&D neglected to notice. My mom has a Mustang and I pity the fool that has to sit back there on rare occasions.

see ******* Rotaries kick ******* ass **** that. No car can compare to the Renesis. What!! I love em
|
hell if you want to compair BMW's, put the top 3-series in there. the M3, it would have own3d the competition. costs a whole bunch more, but it's got a back seat, more room than mustang, N/A and hauls ass.

The RX-8 didn't win the competition based on its engine.

And probably wouldn't have done too well if that was the determining factor. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

It won because it's light and stiff.
When people say things like: "so they thought to throw in a V8 just to show that a rotor is better and to show us that if you want a real car, to buy a rotary" and "see ******* Rotaries kick ******* ass **** that. No car can compare to the Renesis. What!! I love em " it's completely pointless because the car would have done even better with some midrange torque, which you can't get from an N/A rotary. |

It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning and the RX8 won. Engine or not
