So I take the MPV to the dealer on Wednesday for my free oil change. I pick it up, and I notice that the power switch for the sliding doors is OFF. I don't turn it off. I switched it on and thought nothing more of it.

Didn't drive the car on Thursday. On Friday I go to start it and it's just about dead.

Question for you dealer guys familiar with the MPV: Is there any way a tech can foreseeably cause a minor short in the electrical system by doing an oil change????

I've had the car for a year and a half. Seems like the OEM battery should last longer than that. But I do recall that my 626 was delivered with a dead battery, so Mazda batteries (Panasonic, I believe) are obviously pretty lousy batteries.

Bwahahahaha! Good one!

So I guess I'll buy a battery then. I wonder if these radios have a security code like the one in the Audi.

1.5 years sounds pretty shitty for an OEM battery. But why fuss over something that costs no more than 100 bucks. At least you have peace of mind!

and yeah, at least be grateful they did not **** up your oil change!

Yeah, but the stock battery is only warranteed for full replacement within the first year. After a year, they prorate it. I'd still be paying like 50% of dealer retail on a crappy battery. I went the factory replacement route with the 626 and got another Mazda battery and it lasted a little over a year. At least this way I've got a decent battery under the hood.

So how long are these things typically lasting?

Well, I shat 60 bucks on a Duralast from Autozone. Convenience was also a factor. I dropped my son at preschool this morning, then had to get another parent to give me a jump. The dealer is a good 30 minute drive from me, and who knows how soon I could get an appointment. It kinda burns me that they do their little checkup on every visit, and they gave my battery a "green" status. WTF?

Anywho, it's done. We'll see how long this one lasts.

I can't really bitch about it. The MPV has been perfect so far.

I have the original battery in my Mazda 6, or is that made here in the USA?
