one of the guys at work has a traxxas 4tec nitro car. said he will sell it for $200........ although i looked on ebay and the new one that does 60MPH is only $325 brand new lol..... i know its a waste but that should be fun in a big parking lot.... lol
|
That sporrt is a money pit like no tomorrow. I used to race Nitros for fun.
Parts are so freggin expensive. A trip to the hobby shop usually ends up costing $200 I sold my HPI Proceed last month to my Brother inlaw for $300. He got a deal . I gave him all my extras. |
i know i just want one to mess around with
|
Yeah.. That hobby is expensive.. I used to have an OFNA worlds 2 off road buggy.. I spent about $1500 total on it.. Damn it was fun but now that I think about it I could have spent that on my repu or B2600i..
|
A friend of mine used to have a Clod Hopper pulling truck, an RC10L carpet car, an RC10 dirt car, and a modified dirt truck....talk about having a ton of money tied up in something! It sure was sweet to see those little buggers move, though.
|
Vosko buy mine. Its a Kyosho Inferno 1/10th scale. Gas, awd. Have a better motor in it, shocks, etc.
|
I used to be huge into the RC cars, they are a lot of fun, like any hobby they cost money, but it's cheaper then a good coke habit.
|
They actually make a single rotor, rotary engine one here in Japan... I saw it in RX-7 Magazine about a year and a half ago... It comes stock with a 3 speed transmission, 4 wheel drive and with 1.48hp... :bigthumg: That is a whole lot of fucken hp in a RC car... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png It was some where around $700... If it was cheaper I would have one... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif
|
Damn that would be sweet, but who the hell wants to drop 700 on it.
|
i'm gonna see what i can get the best deal on https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
|
Vosko: You can have mine for free...I think P-Nut got it fron DJ when he worked at Comp...its not gas-powered, but its 4wd and its got like 4 bodies...I am gonna be in Jersey next weekend and I can bring it over probably...PM me or something, let me know
|
free works for me :bigthumg:
|
Trust me you'll spend plenty in due time with those things.
They are cool though. I used to be able to drift mine 6 feet. If I had lawnmower left overs in the road I could get 12 feet! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
vosko you can get a Rx-7 FD and they have a rotary motor for rc cars it puts out like 1.1hp or something here ill post a link. Rx7 Rc car and here is a link to the motor wankel 4.97cc motor there you go
|
OK I'll see if I can dig it up before next weekend...Gimme a ring on AIM or something with your #, I don't wanna just drop by your work randomly...
|
ok i'll give you my # again https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
goddman $340 for a engine !!!! jeez |
We make fiberglass bodies for a guy who sells 1/4 scale cars, here is his web site, I think his cars sell for upwards of $1500 new though.
Pure Art |
yes nitro r/c is the most expensive hobbie there is. I sold all my cars. better to invest the $$ into real cars! :bigok:

I used to be heavy into r/c cars and recently got back into it since we have alot of open space at work in the warehouse to race in... it's definately cheaper than real cars, especially if you take into account the lack of speeding tickets and gas if you go electric.
I've probably spent $500 on my kx-one but I had a bunch of old stuff from when I was a kid that I reused... probably $1200 worth of stuff. nothing close to dropping $6k into engine parts https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
ive got an hpi nitro rs4, it does like 55 mph out of the box and i like it alot :P But it is seriously expensive... when i race it alot during the warmer months i spend like 400 dollars a month on tires :P but i buy super racing slicks that feel like they have glue on them and cost about 40 bucks a set

now go try racing your 7 alot, rc is alot cheaper.. but real cars are alot more fun. racing is competitive and exciting either way however, so in many ways rc has the advantage, less risky, cheaper, and you can do it indoors in the winter if you go electric... the other nice thing about rc is the cars have much fewer compromises than real cars, everything is adjustable on a decent rc car, the materials used are ideal in most cases since the scale is so small the cost isnt outrageous to say, make a carbon fiber or titanium chassis. The power:weight ratio is very nice https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
hehe my car weighs nothing... everything on it is carbon fiber/aluminum ... its pretty much a stock base plate thats it everything else has been modified... i even have a new gas tank

That engine from tower hobbies is for planes ..not cars.
|
Tower Hobbies is like the crack dealer of RC... they have more stuff than everyone else and the best deals. My brother and I buy RTR gas and electric kits from them on scratch and dent, then get the parts to fix them and sell them for a profit at local RC shops.
This hobby can easily be a money pit though. I have well over $1500 in it and it piles up quick. There are good outdoor dirt and asphalt tracks around here for racing. |
rc cars are cool, i have a 1:1 car its an 83 rx7 it was $350
mike |
there are rc cars faster than your 83 rx7 though LOL
|
lol you guys gotta goto my old job's website....we have a track for r/c cars in the basement and its badass...******* 30mph in about 20 feet
willis hobbies |

vosko, I finally downloaded these pics I took of my KX-One, it's pimpy, check it:
http://pengaru.com/~swivel/public_ht...3/IMG_2117.JPG http://pengaru.com/~swivel/public_ht...3/IMG_2116.JPG http://pengaru.com/~swivel/public_ht...3/IMG_2115.JPG http://pengaru.com/~swivel/public_ht...3/IMG_2119.JPG and with all electronics, charging up ready to go: http://pengaru.com/~swivel/public_ht...3/IMG_2121.JPG this car is cool, the weight distribution is great, note that the battery pack and motor are both in the centerline of the car, it drives like it's on rails, and sounds cool as hell due ot the single belt drive (it's pretty quiet, I can hardly hear the car at WOT when driving with my friend who drives a TC3, and I pull on him using a motor and battery my parents bought me when I was a kid that I just grabbed from my old car stuff, and thats the stuff that really degrades with age) yes, the shock towers and chassis pieces are real carbon fiber :bigok: my apologies to the dialup users.. |
that thing looks sweet!
|
I have a electric car like that, it quite old now, I wonder if it even works?
I had it in high school, I dont even know how fast it is but its hard to even find a place to run it because the slightest bump and it goes nuts. Has sponge slicks on it and a remote that I remember was very expensive. |
so break it out see what she can do !
|
I still have the charger so I can charge it in the house or off a car battery
by either plugging it in to a lighter or right to a battery itself, a 15 minute fast charger |

by either plugging it in to a lighter or right to a battery itself, a 15 minute fast charger I used to have a 'pan car' that had foam tires, that car was really touchy, the smallest pebble would put it in the air. These new AWD touring cars that are popular now are pretty damn cool, full suspension unlike the pan cars, and they're still pretty fast (but are heavier than the pan cars) and are easier to drive due to the AWD. I think I'm getting obsessed with RC again, between the fiero, rx-7, and RC, I will surely go broke. This doesnt even count the wife or cats. |
The chassis of mine isnt as nice as yours, it is more like a pan.
NiMh batteries would definitly be nice. I would probably just get a whole new car, use the controller and some other stuff over again rather then bother with my old car. Do they still need seperate batteries for the steering? I had a battery eliminator in mine. I would estimate my old car did at least 50mph, it was hard to tell because rarealy could I open it up all the way. |

With the electronic speed controllers the runtimes are longer, and faster, they pulse drive the motor now and even have braking by using the motor to charge the pack causing a load which decelerates the car. If you do decide to get back into it, if you have a habit of going all out with things I'd suggest not getting one of the RTR (ready to run) kits, once you start getting deeper you just end up replacing everything with bettter more flexible equivalents. Better off just buying the standalone car kit and buying good components right away. You can pickup a nice kit with no body unassembled usually for around $200, reuse what you can, and replace what either can't be reused or is too old to be fun... basically what I did, worked out pretty well. All I've spent significant money on is the electronic speed controller (around $200) and the car kit (another $200). I went all out on the speed controller because it seemed interesting, all programmable. |
Ill have to dig it out now and take some pics
