Someone came into Clubfc3s claiming that they had an LT8 opened up to find it only contained an 8 bit prosessor! Link to thread
Anyone have any info on this? I would sure hate to buy into something like that. |
No one has a Microtech? No one cares that their Microtech may have the same prosessing power as the original Nintendo?

So ill post what the topic starter wrote.
sr20man6; "Microtech specifies there LT8 ECU as a “16 bit Motorola Processor 32 Mhz” so I got a friend who knows about these things to open one up and have a look. Inside there is a Motorola HC711 with the part number sanded off. This mico is the fastest that Motorola make in a PLCC socket package so it can’t be anything else. It is a 8 bit, 4Mhz processor that runs a 16Mhz crystal which divides down to a 4 Mhz bus speed. So in fact the LT8 is only 25% the speed that is claimed on their site, their advertising and literature making it one of the slowest systems on the market. http://www.microtechfuelinjection.com/download.htm I presume that the same for their new LT8S, can someone have a look please. I had a look at the Consumer Guarantees Act www under "Goods must match description" "If a description is given with the goods it must be accurate. This means, if a refrigerator is described as "automatic defrost" it must defrost automatically, as promised in the description." So I phoned a friend who is a lawyer. The good news is that there would be grounds for a claim as this is a clear breach. The best course of action is for a group of people to take an action together. What do other people think?" |
i got an LT8 with my T2.... i like the haltech systems ALOT better!
|
I read that too the other day. but I don't really care much about it, I don't use it I'm going to stay with haltec. They are proven in my mind
|
So wait..
The microtec prices will make a signifigant drop due to tarnished reputation, and they don't perform any different from when we thought they had a real processor? Sweet. |
great just what i needed to here i just bought a LT-8 the other day lucky i didn't in stall it "so what do we do know"
|
hmm...get banzaitoyota to check it out. i think he's a microtech dealer type. i guess i'll hold off on buying one till this is cleared up. i have a E6K for my 89 but i need to get another ecu for my buds 87T2.

wolf 3d! lol sorry guys I'm just really impress with mine, hope you guys get it figured out
|
dammit anytime i decide to do anything to this car i get screwed in the long run
|
thats a pretty serious claim.... i hope he's right for his sake. if it isnt true, isnt that considered slander?
|
its not true. i just talked to BanzaiToyota and he told me its BS. he distributes and knows his ****. they are all good, just slow to get a new one out. so dude should be carefull what he says.

Someone open up a Microtech to see if there are any numbers "sanded" off the prosessor.
I dont see why they would risk the reputation of the company by doing that. But nowadays you never know. |
Cutting corners to save money?
Could have easily cut up a bunch of old Nintendos.. Bastards! |
you said it yourself, "Mhz processor that runs a 16Mhz crystal which divides down to a 4 Mhz bus" its a 16mhz crystal, they can claim it to run at 16mhz since it does. its just cut downt by the bus speed. if you read on megasquirts website they say "microcontroller operating at an internal bus speed of 8 Megahertz (this is bus speed - remember that most microprocessors spec their parts at external crystal speed, which is then divided down by four to yield internal bus speed). Many OEM and popular aftermarket EFI systems use older processor technology (like the MC68HC11 or Z80) which operate at 1 or 2 Mhz internal bus speed. The faster clock speed, coupled with direct assembly-language programming, gives MegaSquirt its power."
its all marketing, as long as somewhere in the chips specs it says 16mhz then you will not get anywhere with a lawsuit. |

I dont see why they would risk the reputation of the company by doing that. But nowadays you never know. The other guys who do this is Autronic. They might've stopped doing this now, but back in 1999 both companies grinded all the major IC ID numbers. -Ted |
