So GM announced an 80% reduction in earnings outlook for the year, with a loss for the year a very real possibility. US trade deficit is huge and growing at a rapidly accelerating rate. The dollar is shrinking with regard to value against most foreign currencies. Rising oil prices threaten to kill economic growth worldwide.

Bush fiddles while the US economy burns.

I foresee the total collapse of Ford and GM, with government bailout a certainty, much as was done with Chrysler in the 80's. Rising gas prices will stifle consumer spending and force a 20 to 30% pullback in the stock market.

Sell it all! Stuff your money in your mattress where it will be safe from devaluation! The end is near!

Discuss.

As long as I own the dirt I live on, and have a bike that gets 50 mpg, I'm good to go.

yeah we have some big problems that have come to light in the last couple years (enron/worldcom, the trade deficit, budget deficits etc etc) and so far nothing has been fixed. as far as sales of stuff goes my dad says "my driveway's full, my closets full....).

start investing in international stuff if you can, its out there you just have to dig for it. and b i brought home 100e a couple years ago, best investment i made, i'm up 20%.......

Buffett was saying to diversify a few years ago. Berkshire-Hathaway is investing a lot in offshore/foreign companies to balance the huge decline in dollar value.

If I was an investory I would be investing offshore too!

And gas prices...egads. Please, Mr. President, share some of that oil $$$!

gm's problem is that they still basically make the same junk. 30 years ago if you wanted a family sedan, you could buy an $11,000 mercedes (thats $50k adjusted for inflation), or a chevy for $2500. in the last 30years not only has mercedes narrowed the price gap but we have things like hondas which are better than both. and gm hasnt done anything except print "buy american" bumper stickers.
