I thought a good place to ask about different areas of the country would be here. Some of the law schools i'm considering are in places i've NEVER been to. So if you live there, or near.. lemme know what its like.. weather, culture, maybe even the university if you attend it.
University of Tulsa School of Law (Tulsa, OK) University of Denver School of Law (Denver, CO) Syracuse University School of Law (Syracuse, NY) Quinnipiac University School of Law (Hamden, CT) Seton Hall University School of Law (Newark, NJ) West Virginia University School of Law (Morgantown, WV) George Mason University School of Law (Arlington, VA) basically a break down of the area would be great.. how much it costs to live.. avg apartment prices and such.. basically.. if you live there.. tell me why its great or it sucks. I'm also applying to the schools here in FL.. but i live here so i know how much it sucks already..lol https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png |
Totally come to TU. Beautiful campus, expensive tuition, good school, oklahoma is a really cheap state to live in.
94t should be able to help more tho since he is more real world than me. |
I like Tulsa a lot. Lived here 2 1/2 years. I hear a lot of the students at the flight school complain, but this city is very clean and pretty compared to most. Not exactly party central, but enough bars and other places to keep busy if you are into that thing. Personally I enjoy all the parks and then the bike trails that follow the river the whole length of town. Its a huge city but its not at the same time. I could live on this end of town and never have to go anywhere else. Cost of living isn't expensive, but pay is good for the professional, or even part timers if you land the right job. People out here are generally very friendly and the car scene is very active, at least compared to NC.
You could rent Davids' 3 bedroom 2 story condo with garage for $850 a month, condo fees included, and has a private pool. I think I paid around $400 a month on a one bedroom apartment when I first got here. It was a nice place too in a good section of town. I grew up near Syracuse, no way I'd go back there. Denver would be awsome. Been to Arlington, can't remember anything that special about it. |
Denver is alot of fun, and DU is a great school. Lots to do Denver, bars, clubs, museums, the zoo, and great food. If you're the out-doors type you can be in the mountains in20 minutes from downtown Denver. I personally love that city, not many cities like it in the country. Living can be pricey. You just gotta shop around. I've seen apartments for roughtly $375-$400 in Golden (pretty close to downtown). But if you wanna live down town expect to pay a pretty penny.
|
I havent been to Syracuse in over 20 years, but I would wager it still sucks
|
Newark, NJ is a shithole. Morgantown, WV is an interesting hick town, but still a hick town.
|
i go with denver if i had to pick from that list
|
^^^ Me too. Denver is the number one city for single people in the country. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Well you guys definately have me interested in Tulsa. Plus the LSAC shows i have a 95% chance of acceptance. So i'm definately applying there this week.
What about emissions laws? Weather? Interested in the housing/apartment scene. I like that idea of 850$ a month for such a big condo. |

Interested in the housing/apartment scene. I like that idea of 850$ a month for such a big condo. Emissions?!!!! Buahahahaah. We don't have emisssions, or any kind of inspections for that matter. Weather is very comparable to NC where I lived at the beach, slightly less humid, though I'd say the winters are more like the Raliegh Duram area where you will get snow a couple times and slightly cooler. 90's during the summer with the occasional 110 heat index, to 30's in the winter with the occasional -20 chill index, lol. Tons of apartments and houses for rent. You have a lot of options there really, anywhere from dirt cheap in the few ghetto areas of town, to very pricey in the rich areas. I really nice 2 bedroom apartment with all the hookups/pool/gated/covered parking, ect... would be around 650 on the average. Before I moved to Oklahoma I was expecting fields that went on forever without a tree in sight. But this part of the state is hilly and very green. Lots of trees and landscape. EDIT: maybe lacking on the woman compared to the beach area where I lived. But ORU has some hotties and so does Stillwater. |
Women don't really interest me because I have LeAnn.. lol.. but its nice to know there is some nice scenery. But, I won't know where I'm going until probably March/April. SO, please keep the stats/info coming. Tulsa is high in the runnings now.. and since no emissions ... i can bring the 7 along.
|
Where Im from in CO is the only county to not have emission laws. Although I heard they were trying to drop the emissions standards in a few more counties too.
|
Also, insurance may be more here than what you pay in Fla. You're probably not 25 yet, and not married, so that doesn't help. However if you have another car I suggest you put the FD on "special use" insurance. I wanna say I only pay around $600 a year now for full coverage, compared to the $1200 (it might of been more can't remember) it was gona be. David may be moving out around that time and his condo would be available too. Get a roommate and live like a king, lol.

Just saw a link to 7 cool cities and what rent cost. Denver was on the list and this is what it had to say:
What you'll pay: $700-$800 a month for a one-bedroom, $900-$1,200 for a two-bedroom; under the housing program, $800 for a one-bedroom loft |

We were paying $750 for a two bedroom, two bath in a brand new complex in Thorton (part of the Denver metro area). I know you can find decent places for $300-$400. |
Before I spent $1000 a month on rent, I'd damn sure find a way to buy a house. Of course, if you're just moving into the area, it makes sense to rent for a year while you check out the place. You don't want to move to a neighborhood where scantily-clad gigolos lie about in provocative poses.

Arlington is pretty nice. You have DC not too far away, B-more is about 2 hours away, great living but expensive, culture is not bad, weather is hot in summer, nice in fall, mildly cold in winter, and beautiful in the spring.
Traffic is a bitch though, plenty of things to do. I am not so sure about GMU though, never been there. I have lived in the "area" for about 11 years now, and I honestly like it here, I would never move if I needed to, only thing I hate is the ******* traffic. Good luck. |

Don't tell him to move to No. VA! There's too many people there already! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Seriously though, it's a pretty strong job market, but the traffic is beyond terrible. |
I think something worth considering is how often you want to take the BAR in relation to where you want to work, as well as which schools offer you the best education in accordance to what you want to practice.
