my friend(a) and I have another common friend(b). He has a friend(x) that races pro and get sponsership form Lemans. He(x) is at this point allowed to add 1 member to the team, which will be (b), once (b) settles in and wins a few races he is alowed to add a member, which will be (a), now after he getts settled in he is alowed to add 1 person to the team, which will be me. We start at laguna seca, its close to where we live. After we get settled in and prove to be good we will travel.

all that may not be relevant but I though someone will end up asking how am I getting on on this so there it is.

now for the question. What I wanted to ask is I know there are alot of regulations, I have noticed such things as 4 stroke piston engines in them. That excludes rotaries even though a 4 cylinder is the same as 2 rotor right. What really wanted to know is how wide is the field in pro racing in which rotaries are exepted?

The 13B is roughtly equivalent to a 6-cylinder piston engine. I don't know too much about pro-racing regulations, but I can bet a lot of circuits don't allow rotaries because of their weird displacement properties.

judging by your astounding knowledge of road racing and cars i'm sure your going to be racing pro ....do you have your licensces? no i bet you don't, and obviously you don't follow the sport well at all. maybe you would know that Mazda is the only manufacturer to win the 24hr LeMans with the 787B, a 4 rotor monstor (IN YOUR AVATAR). rotaries are actually raced frequently with SCCA. i seriously doubt your going to be doing any pro racing. so are you going to be riding with the ALMS or some other circuit?

SpecialT 09-08-2003 09:58 AM

What class are you entering??

Your in the ALMS series?

Well, My Dad works for the series.

IMSA is you governing body, I'd contact them for the break down on rules.

I've been involved with ALMS for 4 years now.

If you need any help,I'd be glad to assist.

...I'll just assume you woke up on the wrong side of the bed at best and just an ******* at worst.

1. I never claimed to have any knowledge, that why I am ******* asking.

2. I know what is in my damn avatar.

3. no I do now have my license but I am on the way to getting it.

4. define pro, there are different levels of what is generaly considered pro. My saying pro I meant actual racing, not street racing or public day ont he track racing. But entering with sponsership in official racing. I am sorry if I missled anyone.

does anyone here race officialy?

SpecialT 09-08-2003 01:59 PM

IMSA & FIA

IMSA's Code

Have a look.

I'm a little confused, I assume you're speaking about the American LeMans series, Since "LeMans" isn't a race held in America.

But that series really doesn't "sponsor" people.

Since it mainly consists of Factory sponsored(Or previously sponsored) Teams, Former F1 Drivers. . .

If your speaking about one of the support series races, there are only 2 that involve cars, one being the Panoz series(GT & GTS), the other Mazda star series.

Both of which run virtually the same motors in all cars so options are really non existant. Altough " In 2004, the Star Mazda season prize package will grow to an estimated $500,000, and the Star Mazda Series also will campaign a new chassis featuring a more powerful, next generation Mazda rotary engine. Called Renesis, the new twin-rotor, side port rotary powerplant goes into production for the 2004 Mazda RX-8 sports car."

So they are trying for a rotary in 2004!

Really, it all boils down to which specific series your friend is entering.

The FIA is the governing body, but each series or event has it's own particular regulations falling within the FIA's rules.

Hope that helps?
