Sinful7 01-16-2003 03:41 PM

You only need 3 things to run the motor... Air, fuel and spark. Start eliminating those, one by one.

DJ Rotor 01-16-2003 03:59 PM

Yeah the air/fuel ratio is way different when running tequila, I think you want around 6:1 - and also the worm might've blocked the fuel line, you should've checked that.

j9fd3s 01-16-2003 04:08 PM

well we were pouring it in the carbs manually, it does backfire really well though

DJ Rotor 01-16-2003 04:32 PM

hmm few things to ask yourself:

a) Spark plugs, are they clean and producing spark? If so check continuity in the spark wires.

b) Is the starter engaging the flywheel/flexplate or is the engine not turning at all?

c) Is there any type of clicking after turning the key? With headlights on, crank the engine, do the headlights go all the way out or very very dim?

d) Does it have gas?

i got a few more but these are the starters....oh and here's the answers if any of the above things dont check out:

a) if they are dirty get new ones, if the wires have no continuity get new ones.

b) if the starter isn't engaging you need a new starter, or the starter isn't getting enough current/volts.

c) if there is a clicking your battery is beat, if the headlights turn all the way off your battery is VERY beat.

d) get some gas.

teknics 01-16-2003 06:12 PM

also try looking into the car online, perhaps there's a common problem I know my old plymouth reliant beater car used to have a problem with the ground from the starter getting frayed and causing the motor to stop working.

turbovr6 01-16-2003 06:16 PM

you guys are crazy with your 20 step diagnosis problems. there are only a few things that will keep that car from starting....

1 bad crank sensor

2 bad air flow meter

3 sluged up throttle body

4 bad tps

theese are the common ones for that car.

2 questions. what engine is in that pig, and have you tried putting the gas to the floor while cranking, you may also try cranking and moving the gas pedal in different positions to find the "sweet spot"

let me know, I work on theese pigs all day long.

teknics 01-16-2003 06:50 PM

ok i had 4 steps, back off. those are the more common problems i myself have witnessed, perhaps you have different experiences but no need to get all insulting about it.

kevin

turbovr6 01-16-2003 07:13 PM

damn, lighten up bro, I said "crazy", not anything insulting. it's all good. just trying to help this guy out. I spent 6 months going to classes at the GM plant back in 94' I know how theese **** boxes operate, or better yet don't operate. what he has is a common problem, just trying to narrow down the symptoms to get him an answer

Cheers! 01-16-2003 08:35 PM

if the engine cranks over and doesn't catch... the starter may be out? do u hear the click click click sound? if so then check fuel lines... check voltage at pump... check the pump to see if it is still pumping.

check spark plugs... do they spark? maybe u have a bad distrubutor?

fcrotornut 01-16-2003 08:42 PM

man,car problems suck more then a cheap hooker...

Dumbrotorkid 01-16-2003 09:32 PM
