I'm having so many problems with my rx-7 that i need to do something with it. i have already replaced the engine a few months ago and i am already having flooding problems. the EGI fuse trick doesn't even work anymore and i have done the atf procedure twice now (and bought new plugs both times). i saw the jetta at a local car dealership and thought it looked kinda cool, plus it has the bigger 6 in it and is an extremely nice looking clean car. what do you think?

rx-7_rice_rocket 08-15-2003 11:41 AM

btw i plan on taking either one to the track in Denver on Sept. 6th and 7th

Baldy 08-15-2003 11:43 AM

at least get the 7 in a running condition, that way you might get more trading it in. Actually, I believe you get more if you sell to a private party, rather than use it as trade-in.

j9fd3s 08-15-2003 12:08 PM

i hate front wheel drive! although those jettas handle well and are pretty quicks

DJ Rotor 08-15-2003 12:12 PM

isn't this kind of comparing apples and monkeys?

I think Jettas are bitch cars.

I've owned two Jettas. Didn't like either.

FWD sucks. VW is the Ford of Germany.. so everything freaking breaks constantly. VW gouges for service (although coming from an Rx.. it may not be that bad). Don't bother suping it up. Unless you have drags on, a FWD car isn't going anywhere fast. Even if you have drags on Physics is working against you.

If I had to get another I'd probably get the VR6 with leather. But I'd rather castrate myself with a toothpick first.

The VW might be a less expensive car in the long run than the 7. But if you like having a sports car the VW is not for you.

If you have any more specific questions feel free to shoot 'em my way.

turbovr6 08-15-2003 02:36 PM

**** the Jetta, if you want a VR6 get a Corrado. Mine handled so well, and was damn quick! Plus the Corrado has a nice body style, not like a jetta that you see 1 million of them on the road every day

Turbo II 08-15-2003 02:46 PM

the corrados are nice. my bro had one before then went to a 325. if i were to get a vw it would have to be a 1.8T. jetta, gti, jetta wagon, passat, wouldnt matter. arent corrados hard to find now a days jay?

Yeah they are, they were allways kinda hard to get, I should have kept mine, and got the FD too. I see a few here and there, most are all beat to **** now. It's a shame. The vr6 models came with hand stitched real leather interior, the motorized wing that popped up around 38MPH, and some other nice goodies. Before I did the engine work, I did the standard suspention work(struts/springs,swaybars,strut bars) I swear to god the car felt like it was riding on rails, the handling was unbelievable. However after I pushed every possible HP outof the VR6(well back in 99' anyway) I got bored with it, so then came the FD https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Have you ever seen EIP Tuning's? I watched it run down a 996 Turbo... No joke.

I think they made it AWD now... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

turbovr6 08-15-2003 07:48 PM

yeah EIP was just getting a name for itself when I started my corrado from hell. Those fuckers told me that if I bought a turbo kit from them and they were not the one's to install it I would have no warranty on any of the parts. That was some fucke up ****, especially becouse back then, there were no turbovr6(hey, my name https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR) cars running around and they wanted about $7500 for their kit.

So I sourced out my own ****, made 340 to the wheels, and snapped axles every week. hence I sold the car

MazdaEnthused 08-15-2003 08:49 PM

keep the 7

avoid 08-15-2003 10:07 PM

dont get a jetta over a 7 I just got a 1,8t for the commute and all I can say I wish I went for the sports package

Too bad EIP's a ******* rip off joint. They won't refund ANYTHING, even if they install it wrong or if it's defective. They have the worst reputation of just about any aftermarket place in the US.

Yeah, they make fast VDubs.. but only if you're rich enough to keep them interested.

maybe for the new ones....but the old aircooled ones were a dream. ive seen plenty of them get over 200K miles without a single problem.

matts7 08-18-2003 09:29 AM

ok a wrangler is listed as a car for gays and lesbians. in the lesbian part it says it's "butch" in the gay part it makes it sound feminine as hell.
