So as most of you know I'm in Iraq and we recently had some bullshit Internet installed by some rag-headed ******* contractor. For the first couple weeks, it was acceptable, slow but acceptable. Now its acting real strange. Certain websites and protocols work fine (like Nopistons for example). But others, such as AOL.com (its ghey i know but its free e-mail) wont even begin to load, just tells me it times out. Same with some of the games I play World of Warcraft mainly, it will connect, but wont go through the rest of the startup process, such as authetication and the handshaking process.

Any ideas what the issue could be? We are starting to think maybe its the modem, cause we are experiencing about 95% packet loss between the computers and the modem. Its all very very frustrating considering the asinine amount of money we spent on it ( about $4000 install plus $50 a mnth for the service).

This issue is killing us, we have a very very limited amount of free-time and after working in this environment we do, with the stress of combat operations, not to mention the heat, the last thing we wanna do is spend out limited amount of free time screaming about our internet.

I mean ****, we cant even check out E-mail, and for someone serving 10,000 miles away from their family and friends you can all see how it angers us.

Basically what I'm asking is, is this a viable problem that can be fixed? Or this just something that we are gonna have to deal with due to it being satellite internet?

Any help is appreciated.

This may sound really stupid, but check the cable between your computer and the modem.

There's no reason all those packets should be dropped.

Outside of all that, how "real" is the DNS from that ISP? Are you getting raw, unfiltered intarweb? Or maybe some bullshit?

Ran the IP, he's connecting through a German ISP.

maby he just used a reaaally shitty cable haha, but anyways yea we used to have that problem with attbi and had to replace the modem because it would drop **** all the time. also if you guys are not wireless and have long stretches of wire make sure you are using a nice high quality cable.

If it's Cat-5 cable, it shouldn't be longer than about 100ft in any one length..
