anyone gone through this process...
looks like it may be a time consuming ordeal... from what i understand..im required to acquire a letter from the manufacturer stating it meets US requirements....to present at the port of entry...customs it must also be certified by the EPA for emission control... pay the entry tax... |
The letter from the manufacturer has to state that all recall repairs have been made as well as it's compliance with crash safety. That paper has to be at customs I think 48 hours before you/the car get there? Plus, is it a vechicle you're allowed to import to the US? Suprisingly, some are not allowed?
It's kind of a long process! Good luck! |
yeah...just got off the phone with customs, njdmv and mazda...
its a serious paperwork ordeal and deals with EPA and DOT... Customs require a manufacturer letter stating availability for import to the US..this will take at least 7 business days... clean title..notorized bill of sale along with the duty tax will be required a tport of entry.... this only takes care of the entrance to the US... it does NOT clear your state laws...this is where DOT, EPA, etc....comes in... i was also told that each state has varying laws about what your required to do with the conversion of your dash to english units from metric... |
most dashes in canada have both metric and us unit, so its not a big deal...if its a rx7, it shouldnt be that hard as they are the same models with exactly same parts (xcept for the dash). us rx7 == canadian rx7
|
I have quite a few customers that come to my shop that have cars and mini vans with dash instruments that are in kilometers. It must not be that hard. On a side note their cars are usually rusted up nightmares underneath!

I don't know if this is helpful with the paperwork, but they might know people that do this sort of thing if they don't.
