I just think they should keep it quiet how delicate our Elec. Grid is. We had a blackout, fine, deal with it. I think it will compromise the US security if it is disclosed what triggered this.
Before this past blackout I never knew how delicate the grid system was. I just feel like the media / gov. agencies are giving terrorists idea. |
yeah but there have been public reports for the last 2 years talking about the grid problems.....terrorists wouldn't go for such a target in my opinion. they want to make a statement by killing americans not making them live through a hot summer.
|
what i think thats funny about this, was that the other day they had no idea as to what happened, but they were SURE it wasnt from a terrorist. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

One word.
Enron. Lol j/k. Anyways it really doesnt matter cuz terrorists arent that organized to hit our power grid. And thats not the mentality they have. |

I was thinking about that too. But you have to think, terrorists think about ways to '**** our **** up' all day every day. they already know about how the power grid works. They probally know how to bring it down. Its just a matter of doing it.
|
I think some of you guys underestimate the hate some people have for americans.
I wouldn't be suprised if a terrorist dedicated his life to working at Mcdonalds all his life, and spitting in every burger that he made. Just because of the idea that he is "doing his part" for alah or whatever. Also when is the last time you guys have spent 24 hours without electricity??? If you think we went to war quick over oil, just have someone threaten our power grid. We'd break out the nukes. |
the public has a right to know. Isn't that part of consitution for you american guys?
The canadian people have a rigth to know since it affected us as well. Significant dollars were lost economically, and blame needs to be placed somewhere, Either on faulty equipment on heads, whatever. How can you learn from your mistakes if you don't know what the mistake was. You are just going to lead up to a bigger mistake until one day it will be the whole North America or a blackout for a week. |
it was you damn canadians in the first place!!!
haha j/k |

There is a simple answer for the cause of this failure, and subsequent failures: Portions of the grid are entirely obsolete. They operate on outdated technology and under extreme demand.
Picture it like this: Your car came with an alternator. The alternator puts out 60 amps, which is sufficient to run the car and all its systems. Then you go out and buy 35 Neon rods, 10 15" subwoofers, and 15,000 watts of amplifier. All you did to help the power surges was to install a 1-Farad capacitor. It's really just a matter of time before the coils in the alternator burn to a little crisp. |

maybe some combination thereof - it's increased load without increased transmission and generation. The system is running at nearly full capacity, and we need increased generation capacity, and increased transmission capacity to get all the power where it needs to be.
Also, think about when places like Niagra Falls Generating Station were built. |
It didn't help the situation in Ohio, cuz teh nuclear power plant outside toledo, Davis Bessie is down for repairs, which put more strain on the grid over here.
|
Damn Canadians are taking too much water from the niagra river!!!
BLAME CANADA!!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png J/K |
North American needs to start building more nuclear power plants. I love it when the politician says we should buy more wind turbines. Too bad one Wind turbine outputs 1/2 a megawatt.
A Typical Nuclear Power plant gives out 2500 megawatts. That is a helluva lot of wind turbines if u ask me. |

hey, no one said nuclear power was the perfect solution. There is no perfect solution.

Water power is about as close to perfect as you get. Only thing is you can only put it in a few places.
|
Not true fusain power would be the best solution. No waste non at all. And it also makes more power than fission. Just we haven't refined it enough yet. They have a fusain reactor in MIT's basement tell them to start doin more tests.
|
Yeah Fusion is cool. I forgot about that.
