Linux, people!

WishIhadaRX7 02-25-2004 07:54 AM

I was a PC guy for my entire life until last November when I bought a 17" Powerbook. My Mac can run any windows program, any mac program, and any unix program. My system has never crashed, individual programs have, but the whole machine remains stable. Not to mention that OS X is the nicest looking and smoothest operating system I have ever used. (If you think Windows is good, you have no idea how good an OS can be)

Right click is available, you just have to hold down the ctrl button, or get an external mouse with a right button.

Software is easily found for free over many of the p2p apps such as limewire (http://www.limewire.com) I personally have: Apple Final Cut Pro 4, Apple DVD Studio Pro 2, Adobe Acrobat 5, Adobe GoLive 6, Adobe Illustrator 10, Adobe Photoshop 7, Civilization 3, Microsoft Office X, Norton Systemworks, Quickbooks Pro, Stuffit Deluxe 8.2 (basically winzip, winrar together), Toast Titanium 6, TechTool Pro 4, and Virtual PC 6.1 all downloaded free from Limewire or Direct Connect.

I also have Windows media player on my computer, and can talk and print seamlessly on my all PC network at home, not to mention any other network I have been in range of wirelessly.

Until I bought this machine I would have never beleived what this thing can do. I have started copying DVD's and now have a netflix account I use just to get lots of DVD's to copy for cheap.

So.....unless you have experience with Mac's AND PC's I suggest you keep your mouth shut as you don't know what your talking about.

I just thought of another good reason why macs (particularly powerbooks) are better, looks. Have you seen how beautiful the powerbooks are? No other laptop comes even close. Whenever I open up my 17" Powerbook everyone else with a laptop just stares at me jealously. People who don't have a laptop come up to me and ask me questions about it. I'm dead serious that everytime I open it up in a public place I end up drawing a small crowd. Try doing that with a Toshiba!

Also no laptop is as thin or weighs less than the powerbook equivalent. Just something to keep in mind as your going to be lugging it around with you.

I want a 15" PowerBook very badly; however, I would like to wait for the G5 PowerBooks...by that time I'll have enough money through my co-op job to afford one!

OS X is the KING of operating systems.

Yeah i thought about waiting as well, but I had a need then, and it will be quite some time before they release them. Based on the rumors I've heard I'd say that you'd be lucky to see g5 Powerbooks before early next year.

Im a hardware geek. Macs arent modular enough for me. Ill admit, they do a lot of things as good if not better than PC's, like graphics, but for raw number crunching the AMD hammer core is the best single machine solution you can get (Beowulf's dont count). Intel has a lot of resources but in the end, there only market is the uninformed consumer.

That's not what I want to hear! I'm going to be working instead of going to school in the fall, so I would like them to be out in time for the Spring 2005 semester!

G5's come damn close in raw number crunching to any machine out there, and beat them in almost everything else.
