I am looking into buying a RX2 on the otherside of the country, it looks to be stock, I asked the owner if it had a 10A, 12A or 13B engine and they arn't sure, whats the easiest way to indentify them? also how much is a stock RX2 in average to good condition worth in US Dollars?

If its an RX2 and genearaly looks stocks, than its more than likely has a 12A. Ask for the engine number, should start with 12A........

Hey all, now you're in my league of rotors! I believe in your neck of the woods, early rotors had a chassis number punched in the dash visible from the driver's side and two plates under the bonnet, one on the bonnet itself and one on the the firewall. This plate should have a date of manufacture and a engine code 12A ...... As far as I know all US Rx-2's had the 12A twin distributor engine. It's also stamped in the top of the rotor housing. Over here a genuine Rx-2 has a chassis number starting with S122a ..... and the standard Capella or 616 started with SNA..... I'm not sure how it is over there but here there are so many copies of genuine rotories that are just piston equivilents[and I'm sure Spinz could back me up on that one!], that it can be very disappointing and can also[and has] turned into legal shitfights over misrepresenting vehicles. Again I'm uncertian if you chassis numbers are the same but just check just in case.

I have heard of a few **** fights woolfinn about misrepresentation, but not many. An original rotary (R100, Rx2,3,4,5) is like gold these days. Really hard to get ahold of and you have to pay big bucks for them. Most of the old rotors in Adelaide being done up are the piston equivalents with the rotor bits. As far as im concrened an 808 with everthing swapped over is an Rx3 to me and should be no real price difference, but the buyer should be made aware of it tho.

Easiest way to Identify an early RX2 motor (12A) is to look for the twin distributors and top mounted starter.

I owned a '71 rx-2 with the twin distributors and the top mount starter, it was imported to texas and somehow found its way to wisconsin where I found it an a backyard waiting for me to replace the engine and hot rod it. I sold it to a friend who has a '73 also and they're both in storage near madison. If anyone wants them contact me. by the way in '71 Mazda was only in the west coast. My '74 rx-2 had a racing beat exhaust and a few other mods and it would go right up to 140mph according to the speedo, '74 and '75 models had bigport motors and single distributors with two or three sets of points inside, to keep them in top state of tune you had to adjust the points every 2000 miles. Ist gen rx-7's and the '76 rx-3 had downsized ports so they had less power but better fuel economy.
