I dont want to spend a fortune but the cheap hunk of **** I have now is not driving my new sub, 10 inch kicker iso with dual voice coils 2ohm... So any suggestions as to what I can drive that with, without spending a small fortune.

How much power do you want?
I like PPI myself. I've got an A200 that drove my entire old stereo, nobody ever complained about it not being loud enough. (it's only rated at 50X2) |
I am not trying to really pound a lot of bass, just need something that will drive it reasonably without overloading. How pricy are the ppi's?

I have a phoenix gold amp, i think its 200watts total. Been awhile since I bought it now, but its more than enough and cost a couple hundred bucks max if I remember correctly.

I paid $450 CDN for it 10 years ago. Funny thing I noticed back then was you could make a big jump in amp quality without paying a huge amount more. Least it seemed like it to me. I haven't shopped car audio in a long time.
I would also check out McIntosh and Soundstream. You may know McIntosh as big time high quality home stereo stuff, but their car audio was surprisingly affordable in comparison. |

Yep, one sub. Not huge, not fancy, and the quality is good. Before my old setup was stolen, it pushed a 8" alpine sub in a bandpass box, and wow it was amazing. Just took a peak in my car and this is what I have. They still sell it. http://source1audio.econgo.com/?BODY=cat/105450a.esl& |
Oh yeah, that PPI was running into a passive crossover that had stereo high pass and mono low pass, so it ran my sub and 4 speakers. Non clipping, no distortion, ever.

On sale, 109 bucks. http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/m...200/detail.asp

check the specs on the amps, as long as its 2 or 1 ohm stable its good to go.
I have some Sony amp in my car, it seems good, but I have to say the Infinty BassLink in my other car really sounds good for as simple as it is. |
