im stuck at work, not a networking expert i have the current dilemma. we are migrating to a new network and we have 3 distribution centers in 3 differents towns (lets say A B C ) . A is where all the servers are

( 1 for the old network, which ip addresses start by 10.1.1.1 for A, 10.2.2.1 for B and 10.3.3.1 for C) and another server for the new network (192.168.1.xx for A, 192.168.2.xxx for B and 192.168.3.xxx for C). In all the locations, i interconnected the 2 networks hubs so i could change any computers' ip addressing to join any networks without going to the patch panel and change patch cords.



is there a way to be able to have the 2 networks available on 1 computer (w/o adding a NIC). i tried with the route cmd (WinXP and Win2000 Pro workstations) but couldnt get anything to work.



btw, the old network is ISDN and the new network is ADSL, so i'd want the stations to use the new network for internet access

I'd love to help you man, but this stuff gives me headaches. It took me 3 days non-stop to setup my home network. I'm beat, call a Windblows tech.

i know how to do it in linux, havent used windows for years so sorry can't help ya.



you should be able to setup aliases for your single ethernet card though so you can put it on the multiple networks, if they are all available without requiring a gateway... if they're a hop away you can just add static routes to the other ones. but it sounds like all you need is ethernet aliases. how that works in windows, i do not know.

I'd just come back to the board when someone would ask a question like this wouldn't I?



Ok here goes. IP is NOT hard.



If all you're wanting to do is make it so one computer can see two networks just bind a 2nd IP address to the NIC card that's visable in the 2nd network. Provided the IP Traffic physically goes down said network it will work just fine. In fact if you turn routing on the 2k box will act as a router between the two networks with no further intervention on your part.



So lets say you have one of those computers attached to the 10.x.x.x network and the 192.168.2.x network all you would need to do is bind an IP from the 10 network, say 10.1.1.5 to the nic then under advanced properties bind 192.168.2.5 or whatever is open to the nic.



Anything else will require more interrogation and thought but it's still easy enough to work out. Let me know.
