I am trying to secure a venue for an upcoming Autocross School and wanted to use the Palm Bay site its a nice site with lots of room. Here is an e-mail I just got from the driving school.

Just got your message. It is going to have to be Tavares up here in Orlando. Palm Bay is gone thanks to drifters coming in at night during an SCCA event and drifiting in the lot, tearing it up. So March/April would make great months to have something. You need to let me know what you want, for how many, and I will come up with a package price for you. This will include site rent/insurance/instructors.

I am now wondering if this is going to affect our SCCA events there as well?? It looks like it.

We just lost a really nice venue because of some idiots. These same idiots are making a bad name for an otherwise awesome sport.

Why would someone do this? And why would it be a problem?

Are they knocking over all the cones and not putting them back? LOL

seriously i dont get how drifting "Tears" up the lot.

some extra rubber on the corners but that would happen after a day of autocrossing too.

I agree, the tires I used never even left marks in the pavement.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png drifting in parking lots is about the safest place besides a track. Unless the lot has screwed up paving drifting wont hurt it much about the same ware as an autocross even.

Not when its a private lot on a college campus. Think of the insurance issues if one of them wrecked.

The hardest part of securing a venue for Autocrossing is insurance companies not wanting a "motorsports" event there with the risk of a accident and lawsuit. Thats why we all have to sign waivers.

So if some guys are coming out and tearing around the place at night it causes a liability issue.

I am guessing here, but I think the issue is that the SCCA cones are attracting drifters to the lot. Its actually not a parking lot its a special pad for police to hold practice schools and drivers ed classes on.

The issue is not the rubber tearing up the lot.
