I broke my TII on Friday messing around with a WRX. I ended up breaking my T/O bearing and springing a coolant leak out the back of my engine. I haven't decided if I am going to fix the car (ever) or not, but I know I can't fix it this summer. I guess it's back to driving the Subaru for a while. On a happy note, after killing it, I raced a GS-T on my way home and spanked him pretty badly. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

13b1stgen 06-10-2002 08:24 AM

sorry to hear that man, but i can actually say i know how it feels. im in between finishing my 1st gen or buying a house and im sure you know which one got priority ( the house for those of you who have no life) so know the car is on a slight delay for rebirth.

know if you do decide to sell it i'll be more than happy to give you top dollar for it but if i were you i would keep the car and rebuild the motor with a street port and some nice 3mm seals and you should be good to go

phinsup 06-10-2002 08:51 AM

That sucks.

The coolant leak may be the near o-rings between the intake manifold and rotor housings, or maybe that hose that goes to the rear housing.

turborotor 06-10-2002 09:43 AM

What makes you think is the T/O bearing, what is it doing?

C

UniqueTII 06-10-2002 09:59 AM

The T/O bearing was whining for a while, and now it's really tough to shift and when I am stopped, with the car in gear and the clutch in, the car lunges forward.

turborotor 06-10-2002 10:29 AM

Sounds also like the T/O bearign dug into the cover teeth so it doesn't slide smoothly, did that once.

Other than the pressure plate, could I damage anything else by moving the car? I can't leave it in my apartment's parking lot for too long.

1Revvin7 06-10-2002 10:51 AM

aw scum. Hope u find some time to get it back on the road.

Have you cheked the clutch hydraulics?

UniqueTII 06-10-2002 11:28 AM

Nope, but I had clutch hydraulics go on my MX-6, and this isn't like that. I can hear the pieces of the bearing wandering around making all sorts of happy sounds.

Rotarydragon 06-10-2002 01:37 PM

OY! Well so much for seeing the car in a running state!

Bummer!

If you need to store it, I've got more space then I could ever possibly use. Could also bring it back as I have a trailer, alltho I'll need to round up some tires...

Does the sound go away when you push the clutch pedal in?

I'll check it out when I go home tonight. If the bearing is totally shot, then the sound wouldn't go away, would it? (since the clutch wouldn't be fully disengaged)

Rotarydragon, I might take you up on that offer. Just don't go snagging parts from it...lol.

If it's making noise even with the clutch pushed in then it's definitely gone. I've had a few that made noise, but it stopped when I pushed in the clutch or drove. The inside of the T/O bearing was coming out of the main assembly, but pushing the clutch in put it back together. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

What no:

Hey guys I did a TII conversion!

Bummer!

:P

It'd also give you a place to work on it and some tools if you wanted.

UniqueTII 06-10-2002 03:39 PM

Mine was doing that before, which is why I figured this problem was the T/O bearing as soon as it happened. When I was under the car with it running it sounded like the tranny was clattering, but when I pushed the clutch in, it got quiet.

Beat this: 3 years ago that happened to me 1 day after I changed my clutch, PP, pilot, and T/O bearings. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

phinsup 06-10-2002 04:02 PM

I had the pilot go out about a week after I tossed it on my Jeep, the bearing on the output shaft of the tranny was shot and was whoring out the pilot bushing. I only use the actual needle bearing pilot bearings now.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 06-10-2002 08:28 PM

I had my release fork break, that screwed up my TO bearing, and that screwed up my pressure plate. Luckily it happened in the parking lot of my apartments. I quickly learned how to shift with out the cluch when I was driving it to get fixed. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

13BAce 06-10-2002 08:47 PM

Ok, you guys win. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

I don't win...you guys are making me worry about replacing the damn thing and having other stuff break. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

rotarydragon, that sounds like a deal to me. I have tools, jackstands, a 3 1/2 ton floor jack, and other stuff I can bring when I go to work on it...and I'll help you work on yours in exchange. I'll be gone this weekend (hooray, NJ BBQ) but I should be able to bring it down next weekend. Where in DSM do you live?

Kinda sort out in BFE. =)

I'm out on 74th and 335th/George Mills depending on whom you talk to. It's really easy to get to...well it would be if they didn't tear out a good chunk of 74th st.

I'll direct ya https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Otherwise I've got two garages, one is totally empty the other has the Red Hoover (The car with the vaccum leak...we think)

Sounds like a plan https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

UniqueTII 06-11-2002 03:08 PM

Sounds like a good deal to me...I'll contact you as soon as I come up with some sort of plan.
