I pulled my "safe" out earlier to put some paper work into from the bank. Then started thinking about it and my "safe" really is a suggestion/time card box from an old shop, i got it when they closed up. I then looked around the room and besides that im using an old tv(working 10" ive had since i was kid and was bought in 87) and subwoofer as a table next to the tv stand to put remotes and **** on and all kinds of other odd things. So im either good at making do with what i have or been in these here swamps to long.

It's good to be able to improvise if you're just starting out and money is tight. Hell, my furniture used to consist of boards and cinder blocks. And that's fine if you're a college student. Just find a place for stuff in your hierarchy of needs.

I didn't even own a tv until I was working full-time for like 4 years. Damn thing will just rot yer brain anyways. Keep your living space clean and sparse. Some pillows on the floor, a lamp, a simple but nice-sounding stereo, a nice piece of sculpture and some nice paintings on the walls.

How's that song go? It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.

You know what I used as a coffee table for the first years of my independence? Two pairs of chrome wheels (Ford 6-lug rally style) and a piece of plexi. Held together by duct tape, it worked well and lasted a good while.

What I found is that if you're kinda tight for money but want some real furniture, go to a large warehouse style furniture store in your area, they usually have scratch-n-dent items for a fracion of the cost. My Kitchen table, four chairs, a coffee table and two cherry nightstands were less than $250.

I use a foot locker thing as a coffee table, i have a cheap but ok stereo consists of 2 subs and 4 book shelf speakers. I paid 30.00 for all the speakers and the main unit is an old sony 5 disk player.

An old tea chest for a bedside table, 2 more to support my chipboard desk and a crappy chair I made myself.
