I would recommend building/ borrowing, some dip tanks/troughs, and soaking the material, picketts and all in a mid-grade sealer for at least a week after all the cuts are made and such. Let the sealer penetrate really good, it will last much longer.

It's probably already installed though...

banzaitoyota 09-18-2005 02:31 AM

Kind of hard to do that, especially since the boards are not trimmed until AFTER thay are installed

89 Rag 09-18-2005 02:39 AM

What's the fun in building something simple when it can be made into a hollywood production and take twice as long, lol

It can be done, architects have spec'd it for us to do in the past, carpenters usually just pull thier hair out 'cause they miss it in the specs.

I did it at my house with the mohogany, major pain in the ass but 8 years and counting of low maintenance use, just dust mop or hose and dry once a week.

anazngly it did, except the driveshaft side, the wood in front of the metal bracket got smashed and cracked upward, and some fresh scrape marks on the bottom of the housing.

other then that it was perfect.
