I have an idea for this forum.

It will jump start the readership, and get the 'big list' members over here.

Here is how:

With some Moderators, take ALL of the mails that go to the big list and drop them into the catagories here. A moderator would only have to decide what topic to drop the message into.

The grabbing of the emails is easy to script, and the moderator catagory step can be streamlined as well. The email messages would go into a 'pool', and moderators grab them grom there and dump them into the right slot in this forum. Web page based. Not hard.

Even cooler, is responses made here can be filtered and sent back to the big list!

Because you can have images in posts ( right??) the big list would migrate over here slowly. And you would have a lot ofo good high quality posts here, by way of the posts on the big list.

Do you follow me?

Contact me if you neeed help with the automation of this.

WOULD BE NICE TO GET SOME OF THE "BIG LIST" GUYS HERE.

I think Reto (list owner) might take offense to "stealing" the Big List posts for our own archive. I believe he has someone archiving the messages already, and has taken offense at people posting "join our forum" type things in the past. Especially when the thread comparing the forum as a "list replacement" starts up. And it always does.

Why don't we try a different angle? How about making the information that accumulates here into an online tech book of sorts?

On the main page: https://www.nopistons.com/ there could be an index, and pages linked in some kind of sensible order from there? Things that get lost in the Big List archives, or the RX-7 Forum's search feature.

This would be a bonus attraction. Let's face it, none of us wants to spend hours wading through search engines for the anwer to an issue, and wading through responses that may have nothing at all to do with the topic you want.

Again, I'm an idea man. I have little to no actual knowledge of how to make this work. Seems to me though, that there would have to be some kind of manual entry, to weed out the non essential information in a thread. The advantage is that you do't have to log ALL the threads, just the ones that are tech issues, or "how to" threads.

As long as this forum has a ownership of content disclaimer (all postings belong to the board AND the individual poster), there should be no copyright infringement issues. If we "borrow" other peoples information from lists or forums that they own, we might just have some issues of a legal sort to deal with.

Basically, I think we need to offer something that the Big Listers don't already have. Perhaps we could contact the folks that run the RX-7 registry page, and offer to "take it from here", making a more informative, but less intrusive searchable registry? Maybe we could just start our own without "taking it from here"?

Gimme time, I'll think of more ideas. :smilewink:
