All the Hot Rod v8 cars are calling out all imports to race at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tennessee. Hot Rod magazine will pick out 50 imports that they think are worthy of racing. This should be a good rival, I would love to go, to bad I live to dang far. All V8's will be on pump-gas(to prove a point i guess?), the deadline to register is january 15th and the races will be from april 30th to may 1st..........Hopefully they will make a vid. of this, i would love to see some monstrous FBs FCs FDs supras DSMs smoking all these cocky v8 guys. Just thought you all would like to know, maybe one of you guys will be chosen to race, good luck to whoever signs up. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Are you kidding! You actually think they will pair up equal cars? The imports will be setup to fail! Its HOT ROD MAGAZINE!
|
Sounds like fun..
|
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Yea they will probably pick a riced out unpainted bodykit coffee can muffler civic VTEC to race a 9 sec drag..............................
|
Yes I don't see them picking any imports that could actually pose a challange to them..I really don't see any of pettits cars making it, if they go. I don't see any skylines being picked espacally after the always beat the so called big boys in the 1/4 in Ultimate street car challenge. I see a huge mis match with some stupid kid in a civic getting put up aginst a big block camaro.
|
Stupidest thing I have ever seen. Duh! Will a 6 litre V-8 with a 300 shot of NOS beat a 2 litre honda??
If just 1 import wins that day I would declare it a victory for imports. I say make it a triathalon of motorsports each catagory have a 33.33% value to to the total Score. 1/4 Mile / Autocross / Road Course. Lets see who wins then. Lets see a 8 second Camaro navigate a technical Autocross. Buhahaha! I'd pay money to see that. |
I think it would be a great event to attend. Oh and hotrod magazine isnt completely bias. Just last month they featured John Shepard's 8sec street tire/legal DSM.
|
it depends on the rules for said event. cause they can pick able, siguel, and a lot of 8 and 9 sec imports, but if tehy get paired against top fuel cars, they still wont win. now if its more of a street cars vs street cars, then it might be a lil different and more fun to watch. the only thing that will suck, as far as rotaries is, that we all know all racers try to push their cars to the limit to put on a good show. rotaries wil break and their image will still be tarnished....
i think that the nhra did something similar last year, they invited a few select imports to go and "compete" against some hot rods, the imports were breaking left and right..... |
That would be cool depending on the rules.
If the import guys can mod their cars the V8 guys should be able to do the same. Dunno if I'd really want to pit say, Vosko's (RIP) 3rd gen vs a 68 charger that's been modded to put out 900hp AND get that to the ground with an updated suspension. Damn thing scares the hell outta you at it's paltry 425 hp. |
Okay thats it, where my tube framed boosted 4 rotor 1st gen drag car at?
|
Hell ya...memphis is only a couple hours away from me...and it sounds like fun...time to get some ET streets. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
|
it should be sport compact car magazine vs hot rod magazine.
but then again sport compact car magazine isn't really sport "compacts" anymore. I would hardly call an audi S4, or a skyline GTR or NSX sport compact. |

TURBO MAGAZINE vs HOT ROD. Then we might see some fairness.

there might be a chance they are fair about picking races...
after all, last month's issue did showcase the Subaru WRX STI...and it seemed they actually preferred if over the Stang https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png but yeah, chances are they would be rooting for the V8's. Would they be confused if some V8 conversion rx-7's showed up? haha |
so much negativity
Hot Rod magazine has been around alot longer then any of us, I doubt they will make themselves look bad with biased challenges If any of you were to actually read Hot Rod you would see they touch on the subject of high tech imports as well as domestics, but the truth is that its Hot Rod, not Turbo, not SCC. People dont pick up Turbo or SCC to read about a big block camaro. By the way, Turbo used to be FULL of domestics when it first came out all Buicks and Mustangs, yes, you heard right MUSTANGS. why cant you guys respect the work that goes into someone's car and be a fan of anything with performance and speed, free your minds |

Imports will never be as fast as domestics in a straight line. Throw in a few turns and it all changes. |
you have to admire the lope of that camaro tho. i wish i had pokets that deep.
|
I agree with jim. the should make it several events. each being a % of the contest. I know that some 10 sec. domestic wont be able to keep up with a 12 sec import in a road course. The should also be registered, insured, STREET CARS. not some trailor queen.
|
That link is just a picture of a WMP screen.
I think it would be a fun event. So long as the cars are fairly comparable I could care less who wins. A nice car is a nice car. |
Of course the imports would win. Even against domestics. have you ever seen the movie 2fast 2furious?

What if i showed up with a 74 Ford Capri, imported from Britian. That'll have a Cosworth GAA V6 with 500hp.
that will confuse then when i sign up on the "import" sheet http://homepage.mac.com/frank_de_jong/Medi...20RS3100%201974 |
you dont think american cars can be made to handle and brake?
put money into the suspension and the braking and they get the whoa as well as the go. americans have been racing on tracks that have turns as well as 1/4 mile. most domestics owners are always pushing the handling aspect of thier car because thats what they have built the car for. Some go all out, handling and speed. The same holds true for domestics except usually its speed first them handling. |

I was just looking at a issue of hot rod, its the same publisher
as Turbo and SCC- Primedia Automotive Group |
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png i'm very aware of the hotrod power tour. I've made several events in southern cali for that. And for most of those cars thats the most the will be driven the whole year. But thats fine those cars are registered and driven. I just don't want to see the trailor queens that only see track runs and can't be driven on the street for more than a few miles.
