Nearly 1,400 new Mazdas scheduled to arrive at the Port of Tacoma this weekend might end up at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean instead. The transport carrying them began to take on water over the weekend and the Coast Guard urged its crew members to abandon ship Monday. The Cougar Ace was carrying a total of about 4,800 cars from Japan to Canada when it began to list Sunday night in the stormy waters off the western Aleutian Islands. “It’s sitting on its side, basically,” Petty Officer Stephen Harrison said. Some of the Mazdas were due in Tacoma this Sunday, said Mike Wasem, spokesman for the Port of Tacoma. The port, which expects to import as many as 160,000 vehicles this year, expected to receive 1,376 vehicles from the ship, he said. “It’s just an unfortunate thing,” Wasem said. “You’ve just got to hope all the crew is safe and sound.” |

oh hey, we could pirate that for real! it wouldnt be piratism, it would be salvage, which is perfectly legal for a boat in peril, u could easily go yank that boat, tow it to port and either hit mazda with a gigantic bill or claim the boat and contents. |
Salvage Tug is already lashed on, we would have to "pirate" the existing tow..AvasT!!!!!!!

Yea yer assuming they come up with a method to right that fucker. It only holds 1400 cars. How big can it be? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif |
it has 4700 mazdas onboard, 1400 were bound for Tacoma, WA the others for Canada.
Water ballast will only function at something like 45 degrees, then it becomes more of a hinderence then a help, as you can see from the pics the boat has very little keel depth or weight, it's gonna take a lot to right it. 60% were mazda 3's and 30% were CX-7's |
oh and there's 14 cargo decks/levels, the vessel is 654 feet long
|
I can see the wheels spinning in your head...
|
I can see the wheels spinning in the air on that boat
|
Gee. I hope they have insurance.
|
I wonder if CarFax will pick up on that damage?
|
What if we filled the ship with 1 billion ping-pong balls?

What if we filled the ship with 1 billion ping-pong balls? where would the barrels of monkeys go? |
I'm thinking a giant airbag latched to teh starboard side, empty the ballast tanks, blow the airbag, then flood the ballast tanks as it comes up.
|
i like the how the uscg threw some life rafts in the water and expected the crew to jump the 150 feet off the side of the boat to get to them. That would have been some great publicity for them, "crew fell 150 feet to their death trying to reach the coast guard rescue pods."

There's that one crazy guy at Mazda saying, "see, I TOLD you we should've made the cars solely out of stainless steel and aluminum, and installed those flotation devices! But you all laughed at me!"
|
actually that guy is in an insane asylum and the convo was more like "geez i feel real bad for having johnny commited now, his ideas werent crazy"
