In 1928 ontstond de eerste film met Mickey Mouse, deze film heet Steamboat Willie.



Dit is ook de eerste film van Walt Disney.



Walt Disney zelf had voor die film uitkwam, een kleine studio aan de Hypervor Avenue, nauwelijks geld op de bank en helemaal geen animatiewerk.



Er was snel een nieuw tekenfilmfiguur nodig die voor succes en geld zou worden.

Tijdens een treinrit samen met zijn vrouw Lillian bedacht Disney zijn "redder".



Hij had onderweg een aantal schetsen gemaakt, waarvan enkele van een muis. Lillian was dolenthousiast, maar was het niet eens met de naam Mortimer Mouse.



Na een korte discussie werd de muis omgedoopt tot Mickey Mouse. In 1928 verscheen de eerste film met Mickey Mouse: Steamboat Willy.
