How did the gov't treat you this year as far as grants and stuff? How many of you are still waiting for aid?

Srce 02-18-2003 02:32 PM

I got me a couple grants and a scholarship (obviously not from the English department)...and a 21% tuition increase next year.

Srce 02-18-2003 02:34 PM

UniqueTII 02-18-2003 02:34 PM

Repu, when did you file your FAFSA? They say it's best to get it in by March 1 for the following fall...you get all of the good money.

Baldy 02-18-2003 02:35 PM

I'm only taking one class now, so I don't get jack. My scholarship and my state workers' tuition scholarships both require at least 6 hours.

9BASE3 02-18-2003 02:36 PM

ARMY pays 100% of my tuition.

UniqueTII 02-18-2003 02:36 PM

What kind of school do you go to? How much is it per credit hour? When I was in CC, it was only $100/hour. Now, I pay $6700 for full time tuition per semester. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

75 Repu 02-18-2003 02:38 PM

OH, I gotta refile then.. I don't remember when the hell I filed that thing for last year, but this years I will do it early, probably this week.. Nothing has really changed so I should get about the same.. I am just not gonna claim my dad as a dependant anymore..

75 Repu 02-18-2003 02:40 PM

I got to a community college, its I think $13 per unit, but they wanna raise that.. Its cool for now. Gotta go chat with my counselor..

UniqueTII 02-18-2003 02:41 PM

The priority date may be different for various schools, but I'm sure it won't hurt to get it in early, no matter where you go.

75 Repu 02-18-2003 02:45 PM

Yeah, Thats cool.. I haven't even started on my academic classes yet, but I now have priority and I am in the routine again so I am pretty happy.. I might startr going all out, like fall winter srping and summer, to catch up and get through my gen ed..

UniqueTII 02-18-2003 02:50 PM

What's your major, or don't you have one yet?

CC is a great place for gen. ed. stuff. I can't see why people want to pay so much money to take classes that you can get anywhere and you won't need much of after school. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

75 Repu 02-18-2003 03:00 PM

I am thinking of going with Mechanical engineering since it would still allow me to have a hands on type of career..

ROTARYROCKET7 02-18-2003 03:11 PM

i got my check but i am waiting for my pell check. Its suppose to be $2000. Guess im going to mod my car now lol

75 Repu 02-18-2003 03:13 PM

Hey I gotta buy the haltech for my repu since I need transportation.... You know how it is.. and next semester I gota upgrade the turbo cuz my transportation has to be reliable..

87RX7NA 02-18-2003 03:42 PM

I don't get **** from the government. Apparently my parents make too much money. I got 6000$ a year for my ACT score, and another 2K since I'm like 1/32 native american, which only brings my tuition down to another 5000 dollars a year, that I have to pay.

Seppuku 02-18-2003 03:43 PM

Im not going to college yet i decided i needed to get a job so i would have some money first so right now im going to travis to learn how to be a mechanic. It sucks though i know all the **** they are teaching me but i cant get a job without going there. oh well as soon as im done with that im going to college. But i still dont know what im going for.

75 Repu 02-18-2003 03:45 PM

It's cool cuz my mom lives with me but she doesn't work.. so I get hooked up.. since I can claim her..I used to claim my pops but now he ain't over here in the US.. and mom will be gone soon.. Damn.. I goota figure away aroung that one..

UniqueTII 02-18-2003 03:57 PM

I was an ME major for a semester...lol. It was fun, and I probably would have stuck with it if I went to a better school.

isamu 02-18-2003 04:47 PM

I had some financial aid my first year of Community college. Unfortunately they don't like it when you start failing classes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif Actually I had it for my second year too, but again same scenario. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

75 Repu 02-18-2003 04:50 PM

Yeah they seem to frown upon that.. I wonder why? :squint:

Ben93rx7 02-18-2003 06:14 PM

Government paid for basically one third of all my schooling so far....

I pay MY OWN way to a $20000 a year school, and have scholarships for bout $12000 of that, and the gov pays for bout $6500 of it. So I end up only having to pay bout $1500 plus books and other ****.

I definitely wasn't a very good student in my 1st year. I actually only failed one class my 1st year so I was just on probation. My second year I spent 5 weeks of my winter quarter in Japan on an exchange program but never changed my schedule around from the three classes I had already signed up for. I ended up getting an incomplete in one class and finishing up the others after a couple weeks of getting back. But that was the end of my financial aid, but it didn't make that much of a difference since it was only around 200 bucks a quarter. I ended up transfering to a 4-year and paying my way. I am contemplating my masters, but I think I need a bit more time off. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

rx7machine 03-14-2003 03:22 PM

I go to a community college, and they wouldn't give me any finacial aid.. those bastards.

Srce 03-14-2003 03:26 PM

Had to bring it back? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

75 Repu 03-14-2003 03:32 PM

Man I got less than I thought.. That sux, the Haltech was counting on that.. Oh well gonna have to work for it..

Joe Flo 03-15-2003 06:24 PM

MAn....I am pissed about this crap. I dont get anything. Cause my mom makes too much money. I thought I was sitting on a gold mine. IM Mexican living in a single parent home and my mom has been divorced twice!! The whole thing is ghey!

Dysfnctnl85 03-15-2003 08:27 PM

I live in Georgia, so I get the HOPE...I'm sure that acronym stand's for something...anyways, they will pay for all of my tuition because I'm going to Georgia Tech. Room and board, not included. Ironically, room and board is the most expensive part of going to college.

By the way, I've heard enough failing stories, I don't need any bad omens before my first semester. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png
