At my job they give us reward points for selling and stuff and Im getting closer to the range of higher end digital cameras. what do you guys think of the Sony DSCF828 Digital Camera its 8.3 MP and it's got just about every feature. Read all the reviews for it but I just want some nopiston guys thoughts on it. Staples has it for 899.99 right now so it's cool I get it for free https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

thanks guys

Shane.Trammell 07-30-2005 09:27 AM

what are you going to use the camera for? that looks like its more than anyone short of a pro photographer would need

nopistons94 07-30-2005 10:13 AM

Im using it for taking photos of cars and hopefully taking a few photo classes in college for myself to start actually getting into professional photography a little more. Keep in mind shane it's free as well..

Shane.Trammell 07-30-2005 10:31 AM

right but what else could you get if you didnt get the camera? if youre wanting to go into photography anyway id say go for it, but if youre just going to be taking pictures of your car and your bandmates id say get a 4mp for somewhere around the $300 range and use the rest of the points or whatever on something else. but thats just my opinion

It's not just about megapixels, people! Ask any seasoned veteran photog about image quality and he'll talk about GLASS! If the image is formed on the CCD by a crappy lens, it really doesn't matter how many megapixels you've got. You'll just get a high rez crappy image.

I'm fairly happy with my relatively cheap Olympus digital--it's got a nice lens. If I was to buy a more expensive camera, it would likely be an interchangeable lens model from one of the top-tier camera companies like Nikon or Canon. They've really come down in price.

This is a pic of Banzai I snapped when I ran into him at the Cincinnati Zoo. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Shane.Trammell 07-30-2005 11:13 AM

yeah but anything from major camera brand is going to have a high enough quality lens for personal photos.

That's a little like saying that any old RX-7 is fast enough. If the man has an interest in photography to the point that he would consider it a career option, he deserves to work with a capable tool.

did you take a look at the specs on the sony TII ?

its a bad motha, it actually uses 4 different colors (red, green, blue, and emerald) that is insane. This is the other specs

Sony 8.0 Mega-Pixel Cyber-shotŪ Digital Still Camera: Sony's 8.0-megapixel CCD image sensor provides the Cyber-shot DSC F828 camera with a maximum image size of 3360 x 2460, equating into 11 x 17-inch prints at 200 DPI or 8.5 x 11-inch prints at 300 DPI. The new camera features a Carl ZeissŪ Vario-SonnarŪ T* 7X Zoom lens (28 - 200mm, 35mm equivalent) with manual Zoom for greater framing control, to fully extract the performance of the 8.0-megapixel CCD sensor, Five-Area Multi-Point Auto Focus evaluates five separate areas of the frame and intelligently focuses on the subject, displaying the selected focus point, or the user can choose any of the five points for manual control. NightShotŪ Infrared System enables the camera to capture INFRARED images in total darkness at a distance of up to 15 feet, NightFraming System captures crisp images in low or no light, this feature illuminates the subject with the NightShot system for proper framing, focuses with Hologram AF™ illuminator and lights the scene with the appropriate amount of flash. In addition to JPEG and TIFF formats, the camera supports Sony's RAW format, which allows the photographer to change the parameters of an image (e.g., White Balance and color depth). Software will be included for converting RAW files. MPEG-VX Fine Mode records video at 640 x 480 Pixel Resolution at 30 frames per second, up to the capacity of the storage device, for TV-quality video. The camera comes with an InfoLithiumŪ M battery, AC adapter/in-camera charger, A/V output cable, USB cable, lens hood, shoulder strap and lens cap.

basically you can shoot raw photos which you can edit in photoshop at like 3280X2000 something. Thats insane and shane is right, it's too much for me but it will be the last camera I get forever hah.

shane- the only other things in that range are TVs (who cares) watches, clothing, home appliances and other such stupid items which I really dont need. I can always just get the camera and sell it on ebay fro 700 dollars but I think i'll really use it.

1988RedT2 07-30-2005 12:38 PM

You could have stopped at the Carl Zeiss lens. I'm sold. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

That's not to say that you wouldn't have greater flexibility with a nice interchangeable lens outfit, but that can come when you start making money at it.

Dakmis 07-30-2005 01:21 PM

my opinion on it... nice paper weight. i got to play around with one some time ago and here is an example of what i got from it.

http://img282.imageshack.us/img282/6513/dsc047442qi.jpg

this is full size just cropped to 800x600. the sensor in it was dissapointing for a 900$ camera.

heres a crop form a picture i took with my sister's d70

and heres one from my nephew's coolpix 7900

http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/3...20059244ej.jpg

so good thing is, you didn't have to spend money on that thing. i just don't know how sony missed with it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

nopistons94 07-30-2005 01:30 PM

how did you take that picture? I've seen photos from teh sony that looked 100% professional and great. Cnet and PC mag both rate this camera at 9 out of 10, but Im intrested in how it works as well as the actual ease of use.

d70 looks the best so far, figured as much with the nik cams

Dysfnctnl85 07-30-2005 02:59 PM

Nikon > *

But I still think film SLR > digital https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

Eric Happy Meal 07-30-2005 03:28 PM

the 300d rebel and the d70 were pretty much equal, with the d70 having a slight advantage over it, but now canon has the 350d, which has a better sensor in it. I havent really read the reviews on the cam as to me not being anywhere near purchasing one, but i would assume it has the upper hand on the d70. But with the 300d and the d70 it was more of a personal preference between the two. Canon has more digi cams to choose from, and they have a better upgrade path than nikon.

And dysfnctnl, i like both film and digi, but the biggest problem with film is that it costs you 25 cents per frame, and also the time inbetween taking the pic and getting it, as opposed to a digi which is free and instant. With digi it also saves what settings you were using when you took the pic, a feature which is on all digis and ive only seen one film camera that could do that.

my $350 sony does way more then I need it to and has the carl zeiss lens as well, they probably all have the same lens

save the points for something else, unless you are figuring on the slim chance that someone might know what the camera is and it will increase your status while you ride around in the FD
