Some of you might find this interesting. In Ireland we have 2 main domestic sports, one of them is hurling and in Kilkenny where I live it's by far the most popular sport around. There was a provincial final on today final today between Kilkenny and Wexford which was one of the closest an most entertaining games I've ever seen.
If you didn't already know, hurling is a ball (sliothar) and stick (hurl) game played with 15 men a side on a pitch that's a good bit larger than a "soccer" pitch. Mark |
That's funny, I thought hurling involved drinking way too much whiskey and a nice, cool, porcelain toilet.
|
Saw a match when I was over there a few years back. very easy to get into. Pity it dosen't happen over here. (UK)

Can't really compare Lacrosse because I've never really seen it, although the auld one has a stick from when she used to play. In hurling there are no pads, just an optional helmet - I guess you really rely on technique not to get hurt.

Hey I saw this on Harry Potter!

Rugby's better anyway.

It's like lacrosse and baseball had a baby. (but I think one of them may have been cheating with hockey.)
I very nearly went to an ice-hockey when we were over - the main impression I get is your sports are tailored to be exciting for the spectators, whereas we make a game entertaining to play. Mark |

and robx-7's right. lacrosse can be painful as hell with no pads.
I played lax in highschool (all american biotch!) i played defence. One time a kid with a clocked 95mph shot hit me square in the chest from 3 feet away. I coughed up blood for the next two weeks. Ive been hit in the head with shots before and they ******* hurt. My friend lost a testie because he got hit in the nuts with a shot (no cup) i shoulda planned to play in college....i got offers from 3 or 4 d3 schools https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png |
What kind of a ball do you use in Lacrosse, and how heavy is it? In hockey we use a 6oz hard plastic ball which goes well over 100mph, but then again I have a lot of pads on in goal (most areas anyway).
