Okay I gave up installing Linux on a secondary hdd with the main one being SATA. I formatted the drive that had Linux on it and I planned to use it specifically for my music; however, when they're both hooked up the Grub bootloader still comes up and nothing happens after the fact.



My question/point: where is Grub installed, and how do I get rid of it so I can have 2 hdds?



I've used Partition Magic to view the partitions on both drives, and all I see is NTFS, which = goodness. Any ideas?

I'd try swapping IDE cables between them. It sounds like

grub is installed in the boot sector if the primary master HDD.

Yeah that's the thing, my main HDD is SATA...I'll try some other things.

I ran FDisk on my secondary (non-SATA) drive and NTFS was the only partition.



I can't run FDisk on my main HDD because it's SATA...it's gotta be this drive that has Grub on it...here's a screenshot of the partitions on my drive. I have no idea what that second one is, but my suspicion is that it's Grub. I don't know if it's safe to delete it though...

If I remember correctly, boot sectors don't show up in f-disk

or partitioners. They don't want you screwing them up.

Do you have a boot floppy for the OS you want to use?

Also, whish OS are you goint to use? WinNT and W2k are

both NTFS.

I'm now planning to use the second HDD just for storage...my main HDD has XP on it already. When I connect the two drives, it still thinks Linux is installed on the secondary, but I formatted it. Grub still loads and so I can't boot to XP. If I just unplug the second drive, everything works flawlessly.



I might have to rewrite the boot record, but that seems sketchy. Right now I don't have a way to backup my stuff, so I might have to take this computer home and backup all my stuff before I rewrite the boot record. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

how do you have the "boot load" in your BIOS setup?

IE if always looks at the ide first, then it will always

boot from the ied first. check your bios and change the "boot

sequence" so it looks at the serial ATA (card) first.
