SOmebody felt me..

j9fd3s 02-04-2003 04:55 PM

it was turboII, not the butt-ler

mike

Turbo II 02-04-2003 04:59 PM

CLUE anyone?

j9fd3s 02-04-2003 05:31 PM

so should we make a different ending to this thread?

mike

Turbo II 02-04-2003 05:39 PM

i tried to get it back on track, but someone screws with me

j9fd3s 02-04-2003 05:57 PM

hmm, i wonder who that was?

mike

YucA 02-04-2003 06:12 PM

i agreee too.

i would give my opinion, but Phins said it all...

phinsup 02-04-2003 07:17 PM

I haven't bought all the manatees yet, maybe we could buy a shuttle, something small to start, then we could upgrade.

Leetheslacker 02-04-2003 07:23 PM

could we put manatees on the shuttle and fly them into spacE?

Jims5543 02-04-2003 10:09 PM

I have been around the space program since 1985. My first job after high school was at a machine shop on long island. We made some parts for the tail section in our shop. Those parts were for the newer shuttles.

I moved to Florida and worked for a land surveying company that provided support to the space center. We worked on all the launch pads out there at one time or another. I felt Challanger explode from inside my office when it blew up. The building normally shook when the shuttle or even rockets go up. When columbia blew the place rocked like I had never felt it. I knew something was wrong the second I felt the place shake. I walked outside not wanting to see what I was expecting. It was a sad day. I feel for the people in Texas that witnessed that mess. It is surreal. It is also very depressing knowing you just witness people loosing their lives. I feel really sorry for the people that are employed by Nasa and its subcontractors right now. They have no clue if they are going to have a job tomarrow. The economy in the Merritt Island Florida area is about to take a really big dump.

I could never figure out why no one cares about the launches. When I lived next door to Kennedy and worked right outside its gates I was always very aware of all the goings on of Nasa. Everybody would stop work to go out and watch. After Challanger I never missed a launch. I was inside trying to get off the phone with a out of town client and when the building shook I hung up on him. After that we would all stand there and hold our breath and pray it would go o.k.

I have since moved to South Florida and it pisses me off that they dont even announce when the next launch is.

Here is a link to a site that is really informative. It tells you about evey mission and what the objectives were and what was accomplished.

http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/missio...s/missions.html

Nasa is out there they have a ton of websites. I agree whith Phinns they need to do more as far a TV and radio. The crew members should be on talk shows basically out in the public.

I am glad I had the priveledge to work out at Kennedy. I will never forget it. I still have a piece of reinforcing steal from one of the shuttle launch pads. I keep it in my office.

teknics 02-04-2003 10:21 PM

the reason no one cares is that they dont see it as something they, the average person, will do and therefore dont want to get their hopes up of doing it. Once it becomes logical to do "average people space walks" people will regain interest....right now people are more into UFOs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Jims5543 02-04-2003 10:44 PM

I cant sing but I watch american idol.

People are impatient today. Thats the biggest problem. I can remember going out to lunch at a local BBQ joint after a scrubbed launch and the "tourists" in there were pissed because they wasted 4 hours of their vacation time to see nothing.

I feel sometimes NASA puts these things up even when they should not have. Challanger for example there was a discussion over how cold it was before the launch. Go to that website I posted earlier look at the launch before Challanger it Mission 61-c. It was scrubbed so many times I lost count. I remember that one being scrubbed so many times. It was pissing everyone off. Challanger was delayed 5 times before it was sent up. I probably should have been scrubbed again due to how cold it was and there had not been a launch in that extreme cold before.

Hopefully NASA will revamp their entire fleet maybe even new updated vehicles. I mean think about it in 1986 I read an article in a newspaper stating that there will never be a need for any computer faster than a 286. Thats some funny stuff right there. No one would dare say that computers are fast enough now. Technology has leaped over the last 10 years. How old are the shuttles???

Space flights and exploration are important for many reasons. Go look a a few of those missions and see all that has been accomplished. Colonization of the moon is not out of the question in the future. I hope I live to see it, who know maybe even visit the moon. How cool would that be?

j9fd3s 02-04-2003 11:01 PM

pretty cool :bigthumg:

Apex13B 02-04-2003 11:02 PM

in the age or instant pictures via digicams..instant internet access via cable or dsl or satelite ..instant gourmet dinners via the microwave (all space program trickle down tech.) The masses of america and abroad want instant results...we want a cure for cancer tomorrow..we want a 13b that dont break https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png (rotary generators powered the apollo missions)......and the general populous does not understand that development of the technology that we learn from the space program takes a decade to reach us (on avg)

i truly agree with phins that the space program need to be returned to its former media glory that is once had..the news olny covers the space program when bad **** goes down...not when we learn how our planet was created..

the only thing i dont like is that NASA spent 2 million on the toilet for the space shuttle and my ass is still cold when i sit down on my throne to read the newest SportCompactCar

Apex13B 02-04-2003 11:03 PM

as sting said....walkin on da moon!...feet dont hardly touch the ground!

*edit* oops that was the police (i was close)

Jims5543 02-05-2003 12:25 AM

I grew up in Mineola Apex 13B. A lot of my family lives there still. Do you know Mark Deodato?

Your right we are in an instant society. We also have no clue who the astronauts are. They should be more in the spotlight in the media. These people should be known.

drifter 02-05-2003 01:09 AM

They reckon that in the first space launches, there was less computer power than in a hand-held calculator.

And, I just recently heard, that because the computer systems are so old in the shuttles, the nasa scientists are having to buy parts off e-bay for the shuttle computer systems. Can you believe that? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

"...Quick up your bid for that, or no launch... "--Nasa scientist

They all want to be professional athletes but that is not something the average kid will ever be. I bet it is easier to become a NASA pilot than it is to play professional sports. If you were to compare how many people try to become pro athletes and how many make it to how many people try and be astronauts and how many make it, I bet that it is easier to become an astronaut.

I remember all the I want to be an astronaut, firefighter, policeman, etc.. when I was a kid. Now everyone wants to be a musician, athlete, lawyer, doctor, etc.. how cool is it to want to be a lawyer? I mean these kids are 10 years old and already know that lawyers make bank so they are already looking for monetary values in a job, nothing exciting like we used to, that is pathetic. Not that a lawyer is a bad goal in life, but for a kid to think about how much a job gets paid, that sucks ass. An athlete is a given for most kids, I know I wanted to be one, but it is fun if you make it or not, so no harm in trying.

you might want to read some noam chomsky, he has interesting theories on spectator sports, and other things the institutions are responsible for making society preoccupied with. Mainly to keep the general public from being interested in the things which really matter and effect our lives, among many other things. Theres a book I read some of recently called understanding power which is a collection of noam chomsky articles/interviews etc... it's pretty interesting, though he's kindof crazy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

**** sports, bunch of over paid baby's that make more money then anyone else on the planet for nothing and still manage to find the time to bitch.

While we sit around and bitch about how much doctors charge for saving our lives, but never once mention the fact that some douche bag makes 12 million a year swinging a stick at a round ball and running in circles with a piece of leather strapped to his hand.

What professional sports once had, it no longer does. The "sport" has been taken completely out of it and replaced with "big business".
