We went to the impound yard were his car is and we asked around to find out who's looking at the car.

We came across a man named Gerald who's doing the investigation, He told us that the cause of the accident was from the back wheels skidding. He also told us that the Gearbox was still in fourth gear and that they could not get it out of gear. Upon more invistigating he said that the clutch was pressed in?????

So we asked about the brakes and to our surprice he said that the brakes were not applyed because there were no sign's that the front tyres skidded. ????????

He told us that the final result would be know on Monday ( today's Friday )

I'll keep you informed.

Sounds like the Diff locked up

Why would the front wheels skid anyways? I thought about the differential also. My first guess was the whole axel locked up but the clutch was pressed in? Too much power for the rear end? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

Maybe the calibaration was off which happends when you up size wheels and tires. Did he have bigger whels/tires?

if the car cant get out of gear, i'm thinking (like banzai) the diff locked, or the pilot bearing seized up the input shaft and locked the motor up, i have seen it happen.

We went there again this morning and found out that the diff had locked and caused the back wheels to lock up.

End result was to much power for the diff causing it to break under pressure and the back wheels to freeze up and cause the car to lose control at Approx 106 MPH.

****, I was right about the diff and the speed. That is just scary. Did he do the work himself or was it done by a mechanic? And was it just a regular trip to the strip or an event?

RX7GEN3 05-18-2003 10:43 PM

It was a street event, Were anyone with a street car can race

He had the same mechanic as I do and it was all done properly, but something just went wrong on the day.

Joe Flo 05-18-2003 10:48 PM

Properly? was it the stock differential? Cause I didn't think it could handle that much power. (at least voskos couldn't)
