Ok so - not only is my Supra being a *****, but my 2002 Yukon is as well...

The freakin truck as 70K miles on it, and it's screwing up all over the place. Since the cold weather has come, the POS doesn't run cold worth a ****. It starts right up, revs to 1K RPMS, then falls on it's face, and sometimes stalls. Does this till warm, then runs fine.

I've been all over the intarWEB and I'm pretty confident I know what the problem is. The intake manifold gaskets. It appears to be a very common problem, not recalled, but covered under warranty. Happens to like 50% of these turds.

I guess, the cold gaskets shrink, and whatever holes, tears, or whatever they are are letting air in, leaning the motor. It dumps fuel to compensate and stumbles all over the place till the gaskets warm up and stop leaking. Seems logical enough, but what I dont get is how they sell these things for 40K and don't recall known problems like this. I have like 500 miles left on my extended warranty and have had NO help from the service department getting the goddamn lemon in the shop to get fixed.

And I sure as hell don't feel like doing it myself.

Doesn't help that I have very little time to be without a car, either. Warranty doesn't cover rental.

Sorry - had to vent. Tired of getting screwed over.

I knew I should have got a Lexus or Toyota. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif

1988RedT2 12-05-2007 03:16 PM

Yup. I was gonna say it. Then you said it in the last sentence.

Still.... I think I may try to talk the wife into getting an American car when we trade in the Audi in 10 or 20 years. The new CTS is looking like a contender.

9BASE3 12-05-2007 03:50 PM

Don't get me wrong - the Yuke is a NICE ass truck. Just the little **** gets to me.

Good side though... I did get hold of the dealership finally. Friday at 7AM it goes in. Now I just hope they don't try to do the normal bullshit of replacing the plugs, wires, and all that **** in hopes of me going over the warranty miles.

I know the problem - just hope they listen!

Sinful7 12-05-2007 03:59 PM

Oohhh, Yeah.. I've been working on a problem with my Bravada for a little over a year now.

I bought the audi so I could have a reliable car in the meantime.

9BASE3 12-05-2007 04:22 PM

'Justin' and 'reliable car' just DO NOT go together. LOL

UniqueTII 12-05-2007 04:28 PM

My WRX has a cold weather issue as well so I know how much this sucks. On my car, the fuel injection return lines are too short and when it's cold the rubber hose stretches to the point where you get a fuel leak (the smell comes into the cabin through the heater). Since it hasn't caused a fire to date it's not recalled either.

1988RedT2 12-05-2007 04:30 PM

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for GM quality when people are running out buying Audi's so they can have a reliable car. I hear a lot of bad things about VW and Audi, but I swear my wife's A6 has been damn near perfect since we bought it new in 2001. Just lucky, I guess. And it's a damn nice car.

phinsup 12-05-2007 06:04 PM

Yea i've been farting around with a friends gmc its an 03 and the TPS is taking a ****. Which cuts off the throttle and makes it useless until you delete the code... good times.

Rob x-7 12-05-2007 08:06 PM

this why you lease your everyday car and own your toys

I dont even buy tires and almost never even have to do a brake job anymore

Jims5543 12-05-2007 08:13 PM

You learned a valuable lesson. Stick with Toyota and Honda and your golden.

I had a 2001 Dodge Dakota and it worked great, not a problem, until it hit, 60K miles then all the little things started going wrong.

I traded it in on a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser and I could not be happier. I have racked almost 30K miles in the 1st year problem free, not a single issue at all.

Good luck! Get in the stealerships face and make them fix it before your warranty expires.

I wish I could say the same.

I had a 2001 A6 2.7T Quattro tons of electrical gremlins. Plus it had a coolant leak that took 3 visits and over a month in the shop to fix. I figured I had a bad car so I traded it in on a 2005 3.2 Quattro on lease. Biggest mistake of my life. It picked up where the other one left off. Bead battery for no reason, windows that roll down but not up until its good and ready to let you, sunroof that does the same, at 3K miles the 6 disc changer died and we never got the CD's back out of it. One time I was walking towards it and hit the key fob to unlock the doors and the windshield wipers came on!! Its screwing with me!!

August 2008 cannot come fast enough, I cannot wait to drive it down to the Audi Stealership and walk away. Last Audi for me ever. I'll stick with Toyota and Honda products from now on.

Rob x-7 12-05-2007 08:30 PM

******* Audi is bad, they look cool and all but man I know a ton of lemons first hand from people I know who owned them.

I will ALWAYS picture Audi like this:

http://www.the-ish.com/lj/images/audi-5000cstq-gold.jpg

UniqueTII 12-05-2007 08:34 PM

I really like a few of the newer Audi's (A6, RS4, etc...) but I can't get past the reliability issues that most people have with them. I guess I'll stick with Subaru for a while longer.

As far as trucks go, I'd like to pick up (ha) a Nissan Titan one of these days. I almost bought one recently but ended up with my Legacy instead.

phinsup 12-05-2007 08:50 PM

we're planning on buying the new jetta bluetec diesel when it comes out. i've heard good and bad on bth audi and vw. my brother in law LOVED his audi, it's like land rovers, if you get a good one they last forever if you get one of the piles of **** they break down leaving the dealer. honestly the only"great quality" vehicles i've owned are the full size ford trucks, my dad put a lot of hard miles on 3 ford f150's and he treated them like ****. dunno about the newer one's though.

UniqueTII 12-05-2007 09:04 PM

I've been toying with the idea of a diesel VW as well. I would love to get that kind of fuel economy.

phinsup 12-05-2007 10:01 PM

the new 2 litre is gonna be nice.

I'm leaning toward that, we'd probably end up buying a new car as soon as this one is paid off anyway. The only problem I have with leasing is the mileage restriction, we put a lot of miles on.

Yep - another common problem. CPS, TPS and all the other sensors pretty much. I've heard too many stories about people in low mile GMC's sitting on the side of the road.

Guess that's why On-Star is a popular option...

G2G 12-06-2007 02:56 PM

Do you have a vortech engine? Vortech's have a common problem of the intake manifold gasket taking a ****, somewhat relating to the fact that they use Dexcool instead of "yellow" propylene glycol based antifreeze. I just bought a Chevy ZR2 and haven't had any problems with it. 01 93,xxx miles runs great.

phinsup 12-06-2007 04:12 PM

yea no ****, I did several intake manifold gaskets when i worked at the gm dealership, they are quite common, I even came accross one with a cracked manifold.

teknics 12-06-2007 05:55 PM

vw + audi are some of the most unreliable biggest piles of over priced **** i have ever seen.

**** VAG.

as for gm and there stupid manifold gaskets. here's a hint, it's not just their trucks. ALL their vehicles have intake manifold leaking problems. they either piss out coolant or cause a vac leak and screw everything up. Let's see, almost every pontiac is known for it, the blazer is notorious for it, the tahoe/yukon/sametruckdifferentname is notorious for it.

you know how many times theyve redesigned the same gasket and still have the same problem? about 6 or 7 times now...they update it so often you cant buy it from a parts store because it's out-dated, you have to buy it from the dealers.

there are a handful of manufacturers out there with a product worth paying what theyre asking, and the biggest tip? theyre not american.

as for cadillac, dont get me started on that backward ass bunch of "next-gen thinkers" kiss my ass. first they make you pay extra cause its a cadillac....then when it breaks they make you pay extra for the stupid gm parts because theyre FOR your over-priced cadillac.

hmm, wonder if being a mechanic has made me jaded?

kevin.

I think this every day my car is doin something stupid (and some days when it is fine)

Don't buy and Audi or VW. please save yourself the pain!

Leetheslacker 12-07-2007 03:30 AM

weird.

the intake manifold gaskets recently went out on my dads GMC van.

That's usually what I aim for! hah!

9BASE3 12-07-2007 11:43 AM

Yuke is in the shop. Unbelievably so, the head guy actually was aware of the **** gaskets. Hopefully they get done. I asked for a once over on the whole truck, as soon as the guy actually acknowledged the issue and didn't look at me like I was ******* retarded. He even agreed that the 4-wheel drive noise is somewhat abnormal, but that his does the same and he didn't try to sell me anything.

Hopefully I get a running truck back. So I can trade it in! LOL

According to Consumer Reports, the Nissan Titan and Armada have dropped to well below average reliability. Most of the problems appear to be related to the braking systems.

UniqueTII 12-07-2007 12:40 PM

I thought it was only the first year they came out (2004) that they had braking issues.

Braking complaints persist through '06 at least, along with some concerns about "body hardware" and "body integrity".

9BASE3 12-07-2007 01:40 PM

Hehe aren't brakes supposed to break?

yeah nissans are usually cool for about a year, and then they get dated, look at the g35, it was SO COOL when it came out, and now it looks like its a 20year old car, design wise.

dads a6 just had the plug wires die, it ran fine, then he parked it for a week and it got cold, car started and ran, but badly

and my a4 friends just keep an extra set of coils in the glovebox, cause they are tired of getting stuck

75 Repu 12-09-2007 10:01 AM

damn.. but the tdi sounds sooooo tempting.. !! electrical gremlins be damned.. !! come to think of it.. maybe that has to do with my stupid s10 acting all wierd.. 4.3 v6 = lose

G2G 12-09-2007 04:10 PM

One of the grad students I work with has z blazer with 220,000 miles on it and it runs great. He hasn't had any problems with the intake gasket or any problems with the motor. Lucky. I hope I get lucky too.

My mom had 3 Ford Aerostar vans. All went 300K+ with nothing more than oil changes. And all were donated in running condition.

**** - I can't get 100K out of a car, much less 300K...

I'm surprised any of my cars make it off the goddamn lot.
