2008 Mazda2 The car that will form the basis of the new baby Ford for the US market will make it's first public appearance in Geneva this week, and we've got the official images from Mazda right here. The little machine has a style that fits right in with the current Mazda design language, including the prominent front fender curves and the lower body character line that sweeps up into the rear fenders. Engines for Europe include a trio of new gas engines of 1.3 and 1.5L displacements ranging from 75hp to 103hp. The two should be arriving on our shores sometime in 2008. [sourec #1] [source #2] |
I could see me using one of those to help save the planet. The only Mazda design cue I see is the front. The rest of it is up in the air.

If it's the same price as all the others in that range it will be a slaughter. That is BY FAR the best looking car in the segment.

isnt it about time for mazda to find a new look?
they are running on what? 5 years of this current styling? |

I own one too, and I still think its about time for them to kick the next styling into gear.
This september when I give my car back- whats to sway me to buy another one if they look pretty much the same? |
I like it, and it will sell very well.
|
I see a lot of mazda3 hatch in that...
|
Way better looking than any other car in the segment. Aveo, Fit, Varis, etc look like econoboxes, this thing actually has a little style.

they are thier own worse enemy- how do they expect to sell someone a new mazda who has one right now if they dont change the styling?
they should just call them small, medium, and large mazda. oh wait- they do Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 6 |
all that is is an updated demio from japan. we where told about that car 2 years ago when i worked at the mazda dealer. its kinda cool i think.
|
Bring back the 323gtx or whatever that wacky AWD hatchback was!

Doesn't BMW do the same thing, except with a few mediums in there? Their style changes have gone from "dastardly brittish" to "fat-ass", and they still sell like yummy hotcakes. people will buy a BMW based on its status, when thier lease runs out they either upgrade or go to another brand. Mazda does not exactly conjure up any status, so when a regular guy is going to get rid of his car, he will look to something else. I have a 2003 Mazda 6, where do I go from here in the Mazda line come august? Get that hideous SUV thing? |

Im waiting for them to go to 11

Now that I look at it, it looks a lot like a Peugeot 206 rally car.
As for brand style, it works for BMW, Audi and Mercedes. I don't think there's anything wrong with Mazda doing it. If you need an upgrade for your 6, go for the Lincoln version of it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif |

I was going to say it looks like something peugeot would make. |

I like the mazda styling, but its time for a change, the car here is an 08, maybe they should start thinking about 09, then it would be only be like 7-8 years with this current styling? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.gif |

Its a good look for it's class, i dunno how well that class will do long term, we shall see. americans don't usually warm up to smaller cars after the gas crunch passes.
It is about time for a new style i must admit, the new SUV is absolutely tragic. |

Mazdaspeed6? I need more then that to get me to buy another one, maybe if they practically give it to me I would get it. I cant see having whats basically the SAME car again. But I think I want a small SUV as a daily beater next. The wife thinks the 1989 TII was going to be my daily- I just told her that because I did not want to hear her complain https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif |
I like the current styling, but I do think they should rethink their lineup. I mean, it's nice have a mid-size or small sedan that has nice handling and adequate power, but how about something more specific.
For instance, have a larger sedan with some nice luxury ammenities and some oomph under the hood; and have a 2-seater sports car above the miata (like where an FD would fit in the lineup). |
