As it would turn out both pulleys had worn, the front groove was worse than the rear causing the issue. Im guessing the fan had been out of align for years and never paid attention to..

I'm glad the issue is resolved so now the people getting belts thrown at them can relax!
|
im not sure that actually happened but could be a worth while mod...

There will have to be a camera present and a post on Youtube and GenD in the near future.

I haven't seen that before...
What is it a cat? detroit? cummins? eh? |

which series? N14, ISX, ISM? M11? Remember that these trucks go hundreds of thousands of miles over rough highway and all the while rattling the hell out of themselves just by the very nature of the engine. brackets and pulleys wear out and get play.. Glad you were able to get it fixed.
|
N14 and yeah this truck has a few million miles on it already.

Only slightly related:
I used to work for a company that sold a large number of fans to a lumber drying operation. This particular fan was a propeller type with an integral cast aluminum pulley/hub. Because of dirt and sand being sucked through the fan, the aluminum hubs were being literally cut in two by the belts and the abrasive action of the dirt and sand. The fans pretty much ran 24/7, and after a few months and a couple of belt-tightening maintenances, they would fall apart. And this was a high-quality fan, but not well suited to being near the ground in such an application. The fans were stacked one atop the other along an entire wall, and the bottom fans would fail while the top ones continued to run. |
N14 is pimp.. its a great engine.
