So, I'm just about finished with the wheel bearings and races on the C30 Dooley. I figured this would be of interest to all the second gen guys, since the procedures are very much the same, except that the truck hub is made of cast iron, and weighs about 50 pounds!



Also, the General made it really easy to drive out the old races, since there's a nice little lip which gives great access to the entire back of the race while you're driving it out with your large brass drift, or leftover copper pipe as the case may be.



The copper pipe works well as a race installer too. Just be careful to tap it in evenly. And who doesn't love the fell of squishing clean grease between your fingers?



So, it's really not much like the second gen aluminum hubs at all, but the basic idea is the same!

lol, its a good thing we dont take pics when we repack ALL the honda bearings and axles.... to get everything to last 25 hours, we buy new bearings and axles pull em apart, and repack em with redline.

25 hours? I haven't touched these in the ten years I've owned the truck. I don't drive it much, though. But we did tow a small travel trailer 100 miles to a state park last summer. Kinda glad it didn't crap out then.

yeah, but the race is a little different, its like doing 4500+ dyno pulls back to back...

Yeah, I agree you're probably a little harder on the equipment...

So much sustained stress and heat for such a short period of time...I need to get me some redline!
